2. I have a very clear memory of Richard. He seems to be such a nice boy.

2. I were pleased to hear from you after such a long time

3. I would love to go to the ballet with you but I will not be free until 6.30 p.m.

4. How about coming to my flat and have something to eat before going?

5. I don’t want to take my car because it’s very difficult to find somewhere to park

6. Why don’t we go by taxi?

7. Let’s hope the dancing is as good as the reviews say.

8. I am looking forward to seeing you tomorrow night.

Task 9:

Dear Jerry,

1. I am writing to say how sorry I am when I heard about the death of your
grandfather.

2. He’s such a wonderful man. I miss him a lot.

3. His sudden death must be a big shock to you and your family.

4. I remember having a long conversation with him just only a few days ago.

5. He used to be active in gardening and interested in everything around him.

6. I really like to attend the funeral to pay my last respects.

7. If it is just a family affair, I’ll quite understand.

Task 10:

Dear Julia,

1. I’ m sorry it has taken me so long to reply your letter.

2. You shall be pleased to know that I’m coming to London next weekend
3. It seems to be such a long time since we last met.

4. I wonder if you like to go to see a film or a play

5. There is a new Harrison Ford film at the Odeon

6. Perhaps we can go to have a meal and drink afterwards

7. Give me a ring later in the week to arrange more definite

2. Thank you also for inviting me to come for an interview on Tuesday next week.

3. Unfortunately, I could not be able to attend the time that you suggest.

4. Is it possible to rearrange the interview for Wednesday Morning?

5. I can be in the office at 8.30 in the morning

6. I would be most grateful if you could contact me to confirm the time

7. I look forward to hearing from you and meeting you next week

Task 12:

1. Last summer my friend Charles invited me to stay with him.

2. since his wife’s death in 1978, Charles has been living alone.

3. He lives in the country in a large house with a big garden.

4. When I arrived I had expected him to find a beautiful garden.

5. But that was not a case.

6. The garden looked wild and it was overgrown with weeds.


7. I told Charles how surprised I was.

8. He said that his wife used to be a gardener but he always hated that job.

2. We felt very glad that at last spring had arrived.

3. My family and spent two months planning for the summer holiday.

4. I told them I would take them to the south of France in August.

5. It would be hot there in August and the sea would be warm.

6. We all looked forward to making that trip.

7. We went as plan and stayed for a month.

8. It was the wettest summer in France for fifteen years

2. The price of small bar chocolate on those days was two pence

3. That price stayed the same throughout Robert’s childhood

4. Three months ago the price of a chocolate bar was twenty pence

5. By last week the price had increased to tweety sin pence

6. This week I saw a bar costs twenty-eight pence

7. How much does it cost in 2020?

Task 15:

Dear Sir,

1. My wife and I are now planning a holiday for the next summer

2. We would like to go to Italy for two weeks


3. Our holiday will begins on July 15th and we will return on July 29th

4. My wife and I dislike travelling by coach so we wish I could go by air

5. We are grateful if you could send us the information with details of charges

7. I trust that you are able to help us to make arrangements.
