POLICIES AND STRATEGIES FOR THE

DEVELOPMENT OF SPORTS

Since the inception of the University, due emphasis was given for
providing opportunity for the talented sports persons of the University to excel in
the field of competitive sports. In order to inspire and motivate sports Talents,
University has taken adequate measures and implements various schemes such as;

1. Reservation of seats for outstanding sports persons in all UG and PG courses


2. Grace mark for inter collegiate as well as Inter university Winners
3. Additional sports kit for the outstanding sports persons
4. Cash prizes for medal winners in National championships
5. Best sports person awards
6. Vice chancellors trophy for inter collegiate champions
7. Over all Championship trophy for best college under the University
8. P.P Lakshmanan Endovement for the best Football Team
9. Centralized coaching schemes in selected sports disciplines
10. Special coaching camps for University teams
11. Inter collegiate competitions in all the major sports disciplines
12. Physiotherapy centre for the treatment and rehabilitation of university sports
persons
13. Ayurvedic sports medicine and research centre for care of sports persons

SPECIAL PROGRAMMES FOR GIRLS

A centralized coaching scheme was started to ensure the participation of


women sports talents and to provide them scientific training for excellence.
Outstanding and talented sports persons who excelled in junior level competitions
are selected to the scheme and the boarding, lodging, medical expenses, sports kit
and training expenses are met by the University.
EXTENSION PROGRAMMES

1. The Department conducts talent search and training programme for the school
children in all the major sports events. The talented children of the locality have
been given continuous training and guidance utilizing the services of experts in the
fields.
2. A special programme has been introduced to teach swimming
3. Sports competitions for schools, Panchayaths, Municipality, etc. are organized in
the University campus utilizing the services of Department students.
4. Special fitness training and guidance are given for the University staff, students
and Local public.
5. Yoga and aerobic dance programme are provided for the students and University
staff.
