Phenozyme™

Microbial Hydrocarbon Degrader

FOR USE IN: Industrial and manufacturing hydrocarbon waste discharges, such as, chemical
plants, steel mills, textile and resin manufactures

DESCRIPTION
Phenozyme has been scientifically designed for bioaugmentation of industrial and manufacturing
hydrocarbon waste discharges. This product is used in pretreatment or complete on-site
treatment systems and in municipal systems receiving mixed wastewater from community
activities. Wastes with a strong organic content and high COD may contain various levels of
biologically resistant quasi-toxic and toxic compounds that interfere with normal operation of
wastewater treatment systems. Biomass enhancement with Phenozyme will enable the treatment
system to efficiently, and effectively degrade organic wastes that contain complex organics, such
as phenols, benzenes, aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, methacrylates, nitriles, creosols,
naphthalenes, amines, formaldehyde, glycols, heterocycles such as morpholine and pyridine,
ethoxylated phenols, waxes and other difficult to treat compounds. Cyanides are biologically
removed from solution.

Phenozyme contains strains associated with excellent floc formation. The improved floc size and
density will act to reduce effluent TSS. In facilities relying on polymers for maintaining TSS
removal, Phenozyme may reduce polymer demand. Phenozyme has also been used to reduce
anti-foam demand in systems with foaming caused by incomplete degradation of organics.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE
1. Disperse one part Phenozyme in eight to ten parts warm water (about one pound per
gallon). The water should be about 80-100 OF (27 - 38 O C). Allow to stand for one to two
hours with occasional stirring.
2. Do not add Phenozyme to the treatment system at a location where toxic or otherwise
adverse pH, dissolved oxygen or temperature conditions may exist at peak levels.
3. Application Rates: Consult your Aster Bio representative prior to use for specific
instructions.
4. For application on spills, ask your Aster Bio representative for a detailed application
program.
5. In many cases, Phenozyme is best used in combination with other nutrients, surfactant
systems or other biochemicals. Consult your Aster Bio representative with your
requirements.

For optimal results, the wastewater treatment system should meet the following conditions:

Optimum Minimum Maximum

Influent pH 7.0 5.5 9.0
Dissolved Oxygen (ppm) 2.0+ 1.0 --
C/N/P Ratio 100/10/1 100/5/1 100/20/1
Temperature 86 OF (30 OC) 50 OF (10 OC) 40 OF (104 OC)
Toxic metals (ppm) 0 0 2

AVAILABILITY
25 & 50 lb plastic pails. Product is available in bulk form or in water soluble 8 ounce PVA bags.

SAFETY
Aster Bio products contain naturally occurring, nongenetically engineered bacteria which have
been subjected to stringent antibiotic screening. Simple hygiene practices are recommended
with use. Do not ingest this product. Avoid conditions which promote large amounts of dust in a
confined area. Some individuals may be sensitive to related chemical compounds present in the
product. Direct contact with the skin should be avoided if irritation is noted.

BIO MASS MANAGEMENT

Biomass Management by Aster Bio can help solve many of the challenges you face in operating
your wastewater treatment system. Biomass Management combines biochemical process
