Seal Installation Procedure

Mechanical seal is a precision engineering product.
Its satisfactory performance and life depends upon , to a great extent ,
maintaining the pumps in the good condition.

Time spent in checking the equipment prior to seal installation

has proved to be a sound maintenance practice to prevent
premature seal failures and to keep maintenance expenses at
the minimum.

EQUIPMENT CHECK:

The majority of the pump manufacturers incorporate a sound

Engineering features while manufacturing the pumps.

The Pumps are made enough rouged and of dependable design to ensure a
long trouble free life.

But still it is recommended to check the following condition of the

equipment prior to seal installation.

„ Dimension Checks

„ Condition Checks (mechanical parameters)

Preparation for seal installation
¾Keep the area clean.

¾Remove all burrs and sharp edges from the shaft or sleeve including sharp edges
on keyways and threads.

¾Worn shaft or sleeves to be replaced.

¾Check the seal chamber / stuffing box bore and stuffing box face to ensure they
are clean and free from burrs.

¾Shaft and sleeve should be oiled lightly prior to seal installation to allow the seal
parts to move freely.

NO OIL SHOULD BE USED FOR EPR O RINGS.
