Problems due to improper Equipment conditions
EXCESS End Play
¾Shaft Sleeve fretting.
¾Over compression / Under compression of the seal.
¾Chattering or chipping of the Carbon face.
EXCESSIVE SQUARNESS
¾Face misalignment
¾Wobbling of Seal.
¾Drive pin wear.
EXCESSIVE CONCENTRICITY
¾Affects hydraulic loading of the seal faces.
¾Damage/ rubbing of mating ring on sleeve.

Preparation for seal installation
¾Keep the area clean.
¾Remove all burrs and sharp edges from the shaft or sleeve including sharp edges
on keyways and threads.
¾Check the seal chamber / stuffing box bore and stuffing box face to ensure they
are clean and free from burrs.
¾Shaft and sleeve should be oiled lightly prior to seal installation to allow the seal
parts to move freely.
