1. PROJECT SCOPE

1.1 INTRODUCTION
ADCO has been chartered by their shareholders to expand sustainable crude oil production from
its current level of 1.4 million barrels oil per day (MMBOPD) to 1.8 MMBOPD.

Accordingly, ADCO has undertaken projects to develop its marginal fields to help achieve this
target, which involves increasing production at existing Bab & North-East Bab oil fields and
putting on production some undeveloped reservoirs in its portfolio, namely Mender.

Mender is a new undeveloped field located about 50 Km east of Qusahwira oil field and
approximately 240 km south-southeast of Abu Dhabi city. The location of Mender field is
depicted in Figure 1-1 below:

Figure 1-1

As per the development plan, Mender field will be developed by drilling a total of
81 wells (48 ESP lifted Oil Producers, 33 Water Injectors). The new facilities shall
be designed to handle a sustainable production of 20,000 BOPD. Water injection
required to maintain reservoir pressure in LBM, TZA and TZB reservoirs. This shall
be achieved by installing four (4) Water Injection Clusters and building a WI
network feeding the injectors. Production from Mender reservoirs will be exported
to Qusahwira facilities located some 50km away to the West for processing and
export to Asab.

A.6.1. 33kV INCOMER CABLES FOR 33KV SWITCHGEAR AT CGS-Mender

Feeder from : Intake Power Transformer 32/34.5kV, 31.5/40MVA
Feeder to : 33kV Switchgear at Mender CGS Substation
(33kV 3 Ph, 50Hz, 2000A, 40kA for 3 sec).
Length : 100 metres (Approx.)
Maximum required current from the feeder: 700Amps. (Considering Maximum Plant
Load 40000kVA)
At fault level of 40kA and short circuit fault clearing time of 3sec, the minimum cross
section of cable will be:

(Refer to Section 6.4)

Considering 1C x 630mm² cable laid in ground.

Taking into account the derating factors (as calculated in section 6.2)
The site current rating of the cable is 664 x 0.46 = 305A
So, number of cables running in parallel per phase (n) = 700/305 = 2.30 (i.e. 3Nos.)
Therefore 3 run per phase of 1 core 630sqmm cable is selected per feeder.
Ampacity of feeder is 3x305=915A.

Voltage Drop Calculation:

Delta V % = (R.Cos + X.Sin)* I*L*100 (For 3ph loads)

R = 0.036 Ω/km Cos = 0.8 V = 33000V

X = 0.0685 Ω/km Sin = 0.6 n=3
L = 100 m I = 700 Amp

So, number of cables running in parallel per phase (n) = 350/285 = 1.23 (i.e. 2Nos.)
Therefore 2 run per phase of 1 core 500sqmm cable is selected per feeder.
Ampacity of feeder is 2x285=570A.

Maximum required current from the feeder: 251Amps. (Considering Maximum Plant
Load 1500kVA)
At fault level of 25kA and short circuit fault clearing time of 3sec, the minimum cross
section of cable will be:

(Refer to Section 6.4)

Considering 1C x 300mm² cable laid in Air.

Taking into account the derating factors (as calculated in section 6.2)
The site current rating of the cable is 745 x 0.65 = 484.25A
So, number of cables running in parallel per phase (n) = 251/484.25 = 0.518 (i.e.
1Nos.)
Therefore 1 run per phase of 1 core 300sqmm cable is selected per feeder.
Ampacity of feeder is 1x484.25=484.25A.

Voltage Drop Calculation:

Delta V % = (R.Cos + X.Sin)* I*L*100 (For 3ph loads)

R = 0.08 Ω/km Cos = 0.8 V = 3450V

X = 0.0697 Ω/km Sin = 0.6 n=1
L = 100 m I = 251 Amp

V.D% = 0.1333%

(WATER SUPPLY WELLS)

Feeder from : 3.3KV Switchgear

Feeder to : 3.3KV, 750HP ESP Motor
(3.3kV 3 Ph, 50Hz, 25kA for 0.25 sec).
Length : 100 metres (Approx.)
Maximum required current from the feeder: 122.5 Amps. (Considering Maximum
Plant Load 1500kVA)
At fault level of 25kA and short circuit fault clearing time of 0.25sec, the minimum
cross section of cable will be:

(Refer to Section 6.4)

Considering 1C x 120mm² cable laid in Ground.

Taking into account the derating factors (as calculated in section 6.2)
The site current rating of the cable is 386 x 0.36 = 138.96A
So, number of cables running in parallel per phase (n) = 122.5/138.96 = 0.88 (i.e.
1Nos.)
Therefore 1 run per phase of 1 core 120sqmm cable is selected per feeder.
Ampacity of feeder is 1x138.96=138.96A.

Voltage Drop Calculation:

Delta V % = (R.Cos + X.Sin)* I*L*100 (For 3ph loads)

R = 0.20 Ω/km Cos = 0.8 V = 3300V
