OVERVIEW
Dr. Saeed Ud Din Ahmed is a practicing Architect and an Urban Planner, working as an academic at the Department of
Architecture and Planning NED University in the capacity of Associate Professor. Dr. Ahmed worked as an Architect for various
consultancies from 2005 till 2009 and upon completion of Masters degree in Urban and Regional Planning, he joined
academia. He completed his PhD research at the Cardiff University UK, between 2012-2016; in which he explored informal
land controls in the context of Karachi. He has been involved in different research assignments in individual capacity and as
a member of Urban Research and Design Cell (URDC) DAP-NEDUET.

Saeed has been involved in local and international research projects around informal economy, environmental
sustainability, urban services such as waste management, land supply-management and housing, urban design and
environmental uplift projects, also city’s profiling and master planning proposals are also part of his experience.

Saeed teaches Housing, Urban Development and Comprehensive Environmental Design Studios. Currently, he is Higher
Education Commission’s approved PhD supervisor, while at the university level, he is the co-chairmen of the department
along with coordinator of post-graduate and the BS Development Studies Programmes.

Dr. Saeed has supervised more than hundred undergraduate final year projects, Six post-graduate research thesis, and is
currently supervising two PhD scholars.

2- Study of Muzaffarabad and Landikotal and planning and urban design proposal for the UN-Habitat in 2012.
3- Master Planning proposal for the Lasbela district for Balochistan Government in 2016.
4- PC-II for Master Planning proposal of Awaraan district for the Balochistan Government in 2017.

RESEARCH PROJECTS

1- 2023 – ongoing Advising Urban Unit Punjab in the development of Karachi Climate Action Plan, for the Karachi
Local government, funded by UNDP.
2- 2023 – ongoing Assisting Urban Unit Punjab in the preparation of Quetta City Master Plan for Baluchistan Govt.

3- 2023 SDG Compliant Master Planning of Cities of Sindh-Pakistan.


4- 2023 Socio-economic profiling of education city for inclusive future master planning.
5- 2022 – ongoing Women, workability and mobility. Exploring the public transport in the city of Karachi, and how it
impact the choices of women living in the peripheral areas of Karachi. Funded by the British Asian Trust, UK.
6- 2022 – 2023 Assisting the Government to align master plans of the major district headquarter of Province of
Sindh according to the SDG 11. UNDP funded project.
7- 2022 SPRET – Sustainable Pathways for Renewable Energy Transitions. A project funded by the Royal
Academy of Engineering, Frontiers Challenge. Collaboration with Cardiff University UK to explore various

8- 2021 – ongoing Understanding Water Supply System in Karachi and Related Issues. A collaboration with Dr.
Nazia Hussain, Assistant Professor Tokyo University.
9- 2020-2022 Rubbish, Resource and Residues: Waste and Wellbeing in Ethiopia and Pakistan. British
Academy funded project, focused on the waste management practices. In collaboration with LSE team led by Prof.
