TEACHING AND LEARNING STRATEGIES


1. Pupils turn to Close-up page 130 and listen to teacher reading aloud the information on “Ordering Ideas” .
2. Pupils look at the sentence “Iris went to the theatre” on the board and work as a class to come up with as many
ways as possible to complete the sentence so it says what happened when Iris went to the theatre.
PRE-LESSON
3. Pupils look at the picture in the top right-hand corner of page 130 and state what they can see.
4. Pupils work in pairs to discuss why people would go to the place in the picture.

1. Pupils look at Section A and read the instructions.


2. Pupils write 6 sentences according to their correct order.
3. Pupils check answers as a class.
4. Pupils work in pairs to write an explanation of about 80 words of a simple process (e.g. how to make a cup of tea
or change a bicycle tire) using phrases for ordering ideas.
5. A few pairs read aloud their paragraphs to the class.
6. Pupils proceed to Section B and read the instructions.
7. Pupils read the first writing question and state who the letter is from (their Australian pen-pal)

8. Pupils state what their pen-pal is doing in the after-school.

9. Pupils read the second writing question and state who has asked them to write a story.
10. Pupils state the 2 text types in response to 2 questions.
11. Pupils move on to Section C and skim through the example letter to see how the writer has responded to his/her
Australian pen-pal’s request.
12. Pupils read the questions, a and b and look back at the example letter.
13. Pupils answer 2 questions about the example letter.
14. Pupils check answers as a class.
