Narrative Report on Brigada Eskwela 2024

I. Introduction

Brigada Eskwela 2024, the annual national volunteer program initiated by

the Department of Education (DepEd) in the Philippines, was held from May
27 to June 1, 2024. The program, also known as the National Schools
Maintenance Week, aims to bring together educators, parents, students, and
community members to prepare public school facilities for the upcoming
academic year. The theme for this year’s Brigada Eskwela was “Sama-
samang Pag-aalaga sa Kalikasan para sa Kinabukasan ng Kabataan,” which
translates to “Collective Care for the Environment for the Future of the
Youth.” This theme highlights the commitment to environmental
sustainability as part of the educational preparation.

II. Objectives

The primary objectives of Brigada Eskwela 2024 were:

1. To enhance the physical learning environment of public schools

through collective efforts.

2. To foster a sense of community and shared responsibility among

stakeholders.

3. To incorporate environmental care into school maintenance activities.

4. To prepare schools for the safe and effective delivery of quality

education in the coming school year.

III. Preparations and Planning

Preparations for Brigada Eskwela 2024 began months in advance. School

heads and local government units (LGUs) coordinated to identify the needs
of each participating school. Prior to the event, schools conducted
assessments to determine areas requiring repair, cleaning, and
improvement. The Brigada Eskwela 2024 planning committee, composed of
teachers, school administrators, parents, and local volunteers, organized
various activities, including cleaning drives, painting projects, and the
installation of new facilities.

IV. Activities and Implementation

The week-long event saw active participation from a diverse group of

volunteers. Each day of Brigada Eskwela 2024 was marked by various
activities, including:

classrooms, repairing damaged facilities, and painting walls. Special
attention was given to ensuring that the surroundings were not only
clean but also conducive to learning.

2. Environmental Initiatives: In line with the theme, schools undertook

several environmental projects. These included tree planting activities,
setting up waste segregation stations, and creating school gardens.
These initiatives aimed to promote environmental awareness among
students and the community.

3. Resource Mobilization: Donations of materials, tools, and equipment

were solicited from local businesses, alumni, and community members.
This support was instrumental in carrying out the maintenance
activities effectively.

4. Community Engagement: Various stakeholders, including barangay

officials, local businesses, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs),
participated actively. Community engagement was crucial in fostering
a collaborative spirit and ensuring the success of the program.

V. Challenges

Despite the success of the program, several challenges were encountered:

1. Resource Constraints: Some schools faced limitations in terms of

materials and equipment, which affected the extent of the
maintenance work that could be accomplished.

2. Weather Conditions: Inclement weather disrupted certain outdoor

activities, particularly those involving painting and gardening.

3. Coordination Issues: Effective coordination among different groups

was sometimes challenging, leading to logistical delays.
