Geographical Position:

South Africa occupies the southern part of Africa.


It borders Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe to the north, Mozambique and Eswatini
(Swaziland) to the east, and Lesotto is an enclave. The Atlantic Ocean to the west, and the
Indian Ocean to the south.
Capital City:
The capital city is Pretoria (administrative), Bloemfontein (judicial), and Cape Town
(legislative).
Cities:
Other important cities in South Africa are Johannesburg, Durban, and Port Elizabeth.
Population:
The population is over 59.86 million.
Currency:
The currency of South Africa is the South African Rand (ZAR).
Form of Government:
South Africa is a Parliamentary Republic. The president is Cyril Ramaphosa.
Flag:
The flag is called the National Flag of the Republic of South Africa. It has six colors: black,
yellow, green, white, red, and blue. It features a green Y-shaped band bordered by narrow
white stripes, with a black triangle on the hoist side. The upper area is red and the bottom
area is blue.
Patron Saint:
The patron saint of Sudáfrica is Martin of Tours, wicht is celebrated on 11 November
Anthem:
The National anthem of South Africa is “Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika” and “Die Stem van Suid-
Afrika” . Enoch Sontonga composed "Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika" and M.L. de Villiers
composed "Die Stem van Suid-Afrika" in 1997.
Animals:
Some typical South African animals are the lion, elephant, rhinoceros, leopard, and buffalo.
Plants:
Some distinctive South African plants are the protea, baobab, rooibos, aloe ferox, and
yellowwood.
Food:
The traditional food in South Africa is biltong, bobotie, boerewors, pap, and chakalaka.
Sports:
Some popular sports in South Africa are rugby, cricket, soccer (football), netball, and golf.
Tourist Attractions:
The main tourist attractions are:
- Kruger National Park: One of Africa’s largest game reserves, home to the Big Five (lion,
leopard, rhinoceros, elephant, and buffalo).
- Table Mountain: Iconic flat-topped mountain overlooking Cape Town, accessible by cable
car and offering stunning views.
- Robben Island: Historic site where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years, now a
museum and UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- Cape Winelands: Renowned wine-producing region with picturesque vineyards and wine
estates.
- Drakensberg Mountains: Majestic mountain range offering hiking trails, scenic
landscapes, and ancient rock art.
