Title and No. of Activity: Changes of Solids to Liquids through the Process of Freezing Using
Diagrams and Flowcharts
Objective: Describe changes of solids to liquids through the process of freezing using diagrams
and flowcharts
Materials Needed:
The materials needed to this activity are the following:
paper
ballpen
internet connection
Duration: 15 minutes
Instructions:
Follow the instructions in every task diligently. Read the questions carefully on each task before
answering. Write your answers on the answer sheet provided. Answer all the given tasks.
Tasks
Task 1: Describe orally how the given materials below change its state through the process of
melting.

Task 2: Now, let us read and familiarize altogether the poem below.
Solids
A solid’s a solid
It doesn’t change shape
It can’t move around
It stays in one place
Gases
Air is a gas
We can’t see it, that’s true
But often we feel it
In the things that we do
It keeps up a kite
Air fills up a bubble
Without it to breathe
We would be in BIG trouble!

Since you have already known the meaning of solids, liquids and gases, try to give one example
of each and use them in a sentence as you use them in your daily lives.
Task 3: Refer to the poem entitled” Magic Popsicle” and answer the questions. Write your
answers on the answer sheet provided for you.

Task Questions:
1. Why do we need to put the mixture of milk and water inside the freezer?
2. What happens to liquid when it is cooled to even lower temperatures?
Task 4: Study the diagrams below and answer the given questions. Write your answers on the
answer sheet provided for you.
Diagram 1
= _______
0˚C
Diagram 2
= _______
10˚C
Task Questions:
1. Which of the diagrams can turn the water into solid? Why?
2. In diagram 2, can it turn the water into solid? Why?
Joey bought an ice candy. He had to go to his mother first to give the change of money he used
in buying. So, he placed the ice candy on top of a table and look for his mother. After few
minutes, when Joey came back for his ice candy, he was so sad to see it melted.
1. How would you describe the change happened to Joey’s ice cream when left on top of the
table?
2. Through a diagram, describe the change that happened to the ice cream.
3. If you were Joey, what should have you done to prevent your ice candy from melting?

Reflection: Reflect on the following questions and write your answers on the answer sheet
provided for you.
1. Has this lesson helped you to better understand the changes between solid to liquids using
diagram? If so, how?
2. How does this lesson help you in your day to day living?
Answers Key
Task 1
1. The ice begins to change into liquid water when it absorbs heat.
2. The butter melts when you heat it in a pan on the stove.
3. The sugar starts to break down and turns into caramel whenever it gets
heated.
Task 2
Answers may vary
Task 3
1. We need to put the mixture of milk and water inside the freezer when
making popsicles to become solid.
2. If a liquid is cooled sufficiently, it forms a solid and freezing occurs.
Task 4
1. The refrigerator in diagram 1 can turn the water into solid because its
temperature reaches the freezing point which is 0 degree Celsius.
2. The refrigerator in diagram 2 could not turn the water into solid because
the temperature is higher at which water freezes.
Assessment
1. Joey’s ice cream melted when left on top of the table because the air
temperature is warmer than the freezer.
2. Refer to the rubric.
3. If I were Joey, I would have put the ice cream in the freezer.
