Meta is a technological company which focuses on creating social media


platforms. The Meta company itself its not widely known for its name. Despite it, most of
its social media platform such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp is among the
most recognizable apps nowadays. Recently, the company expand themselves by
creating a new social media platform called Thread. Expansion of social media such as
Threads provide new unique features, such as advanced algorithms and AI. Thread’s
mission is to bring people together in the digitalized world. Moreover, Thread has an
intense competitor called ‘X’ or used to called twitter.

STEEPLE Analysis

Social
● Threads aim to attract young users. Based on its demographic, it has
successfully attract majority of young users. With largest male age group
of 23-25 and largest female age group of 18-25. This shows that its young
audience include mostly young adults, and not teenagers. Just like
instagram, twitter, and other social media platform, users in thread interact
through posts, comments, reply and etc. A new feature involves
interaction through repost and immersive virtual reality in Threads. With
trends happening on other social media platforms, Threads have to keep
up with them. They establish the trends by focusing on user privacy and
control, promoting community building, and using advanced AI to
personalize content. Similar to other media trends, which also focuses in
developing these features.

Technology
● With the popularity of AI, Thread took advantage of it by creating more a
advance AI in generating content for users. Its feature requires
uniqueness to stand out from other media platforms. Thereby, it improves
user experience with new immersive virtual reality interection and
advanced augmented reality capabilities. Although, Threads different
feature isn’t recognizable as its technology practices is very similar to
Instagram. Which makes it difficult for users to identify the main focus of
Thread with the existence of Instagram. However, Thread develop better
privacy and security for users. Users are able to take better control over
their data and sensitive informations.

Economic
● With more than 100 million users active daily, Analyst estimate the annual
revenue of Threads of $8 billion for the next 2 years. Although, Thread
users have declined 80%, which could continue to decline reducing its
annual revenue. In the marketing of social media, Thread faced its largest
competitor from Twitter. Twitter is an independent app, whereas Threads
is tightly integrated into Instagram. Both platform has became a
competition because Thread allow long text writing giving readers a more
engaging experience, while the character limit on Twitter frequently
prevents users from writing in-depth narratives. From an advertising
standpoint, if Threads becomes an important product for Meta, it will
increase the popularity of the company's overall social media app. Brands
might streamline their ad purchasing by dedicating all of their resources to
a single social media platform user base.

Environment
● META’s company establish environmental sustainability on each platforms.
This contributes to attraction of company to users who prioritize
eco-friendly practices. Thread’s establishment of environmental impact
isn’t visible in short-term, as it is a new social media platform. Although,
digital platform energy consumption of data often contributes to
greenhouse gases emission. Along with, upgrade of social media leading
to change in devices, which further contributes to electronic waste.

Political, Legal, Ethical


● In terms of politics, legal, and ethical acts, these are done by the Meta
company. Meta meets with government officials on a regular basis to
address policy problems that are important to the to the company. They
also give informations about the company's goods and services to the
government. Due to the regular encounter with government officials, Meta
require all employees to follow several policies created, which include the
Code of Conduct and Political Activities and Lobbying Policy. Meta also
train their employees and external consultants who meet with government
officials to discuss policy issues on the ethical standards that must be act
lawfully, honestly, and ethically, as well as follow all reporting laws in the
country they operate. Meta has uses its facebook and instagram platform
to interfere with politics, example of it is where Meta take down what it
described as the first targeted Chinese campaign to interfere in U.S.
politics ahead of the midterm elections. It’s development for privacy and
security, is also seen as an ethical act to respect personal data and
informations.
