Time to Upgrade?

Have you updated to

the Latest Code yet?
Updating/Upgrading to the latest code is
important. Customers on newer code enjoy
greater functionality and fewer outages/service
requests.

Updating to code levels that have been

released in the last 12 months ensures that you
can take advantage of the newest features,
functionality, fixes and security enhancements.
For Unity that means 5.1.1 or greater.
Updating to the Latest Code OR Target Code
ensures that you can take advantage of the
newest features, functionality, fixes, and
security enhancements.

Recommended Code

Dell Unity Operating Environment (“Unity OE”) 5.2.1.0.5.013 is the latest release for all Dell Unity (“Unity”)
products. It was released on July 28, 2022. This version adds support for USGV6-R1 Certification. USGV6R1
is the first update to a set of protocol specifications published by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF),
encompassing basic IPv6 functionality. It includes specific requirements and key optional capabilities for
routing, security, multicast, network management, and quality of service. This OE version includes the latest
drive firmware bundle, V20. Unity OE and drive firmware are customer upgradable.

Target Code

Dell Technologies has established Target Code for each product to ensure stable and reliable environments.
Target Code is a specific code release that has successfully met specific criteria that enables it to be a highly
trusted and recommended code release. Dell Technologies encourages customers to upgrade to a Target
Code version to ensure a stable and reliable environment. If a customer requires features or enhancements
that are provided by a new version, the customer should upgrade to that version. The current Target version
for all Unity models is 5.1.3.

Recommended Drive Firmware Bundle

The latest version of the drive firmware bundle is V20. Customers are advised to regularly update their drive
firmware using the latest drive firmware bundle. Drive firmware is customer upgradable using the Drive
Firmware upgrade wizard in Unisphere. You will see a Unisphere alert when new firmware is available for your
specific drives. The wizard will download and install the latest firmware.

Connectivity

Your Action May be Required to

Keep your Unity Array Connected
as older SRS versions are Retired

SRS Gateways using End of Service Life (EOSL) versions will lose connectivity in October
Secure Remote Services (SRS) Virtual Edition versions 3.40 and older are all beyond their End of Service
Life (EOSL) Date and no longer supported. Per DTA 193441, on October 15, 2022, the SSL Certificates will
expire and will not be regenerated. This will mean the EOSL versions will not connect to Dell as of October
2022. To continue to receive the benefits of SRS, SRS code updates are needed before October. See KB
188341 for the upgrade path. To update SRS login to the SRS Gateway and click on “View Update” within
the banner at the top of the dashboard. For the best connectivity experience follow the same process and
upgrade from SRS 3.52 to Secure Connect Gateway.

Dell Unity Newsletter – July 2022

Unity arrays running OE 5.0.3 and older and using Integrated SRS will lose connectivity in
October
The version of SRS in Unity OE versions 5.0.3 and older are all beyond their End of Service Life (EOSL)
Date and no longer supported. On October 15, 2022, the SSL Certificates will expire and will not be
regenerated. This will mean Dell will not be able to remotely monitor any Unity array using Integrated SRS,
unless the OE is upgraded to 5.0.4 or newer. To continue to receive the benefits of SRS, please upgrade the
OE before October 14, 2022. The Unity OE is customer upgradable.
