from our senior pastor

Greetings, brothers and sisters in Christ!

It has been six months into the year, and we have seen so
many things happen in our church, our country, and our world.
Furthermore, the reality is that we face spiritual battles daily
– and the way to face them and fight them is on our knees in
prayer!
As we enter the second half of the year, we invite you to join
us once again for a season of prayer and fasting. Our theme is
UNDEFEATED: The Victorious Prayer Life.
Throughout these days, we will be looking into various instances
in Scripture where prayer was done to respond to the challenges
people were facing at that moment. Our convictions are deeply
rooted in our faith in God, and His faithfulness towards us.
When the battles come, we strengthen ourselves through prayer,
crying out to Him who provides relief, refuge, and victory. If we
are true believers, we fight from a position of victory – that which
was already won by Jesus Christ! 1 John 5:4 says this:

For whatever is born of God overcomes the world;

and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our
faith.

I pray that in this season of prayer and fasting, we learn to

depend on the Lord and to experience His perfect peace
knowing that God is with us, and our lives are secured in Him.
May we experience breakthroughs in all aspects of our lives as
we devote our time in praying, fasting, and seeking His presence
together as a church.

Have a blessed time this week.

In Christ,

Dr. Peter Tan-Chi

LET'S FAST AND

PRAY TOGETHER
Our bi-annual prayer and fasting weeks are
held every start and middle of the year for
us to express our dependence on God and
recalibrate ourselves to His will.

As we fast and pray, study and apply His

Word, and gather together from Wednesday
to Saturday for corporate worship and prayer,
let us confidently bring our needs to Him,
THE GOD WHO IS THE SAME YESTERDAY,
TODAY, AND FOREVER (HEBREWS 13:8).
1

WHAT IS PRAYER?
Prayer is conversing and communing with God and listening
to Him for the purpose of aligning our will to His. We come
before God in the name of Jesus, based on His Word (the
Bible), and guided by His Holy Spirit. When we pray, we
worship Him, pour our hearts out in thanksgiving to Him
as our Heavenly Father, bring to Him our needs and the
needs of others, and ask that His Kingdom come and His
will be done in our lives (Matthew 6:9-13; 1 John 5:14-15;
John 16:23-24; Jude 20).

WHAT IS FASTING?
Fasting is the voluntary abstinence from food for a specified
duration of time to express remorse and repentance from
sin, to earnestly seek God’s will, or to be more intimate
with God as we spend extended time in reading His Word
and in prayer. Foregoing something essential such as
food gives us an opportunity to express how sincere and
determined we are in aligning ourselves with God’s heart
by humbly seeking His answers to our questions, praying
for His provisions for our needs, and asking for spiritual
breakthroughs.

While modern-day Christians may also fast (abstain) from

other things like entertainment, sports, and social media,
abstaining from food is the typical expression of fasting in
the Bible because we can survive our entire lives without
many things — but we cannot go on forever without food.
Meaning, we have chosen God and His pleasure more than
what sustains our physical life (Nehemiah 1:4, 9:1; Esther 4:3;
Daniel 9:3; Joel 2:12; Matthew 6:16-18; Acts 13:2; Isaiah 58).
2

WHY SHOULD WE FAST?

GOD EXPECTS US TO FAST.

Whenever you fast, do not put on a gloomy face as the
hypocrites do, for they neglect their appearance so that
they will be noticed by men when they are fasting. Truly
I say to you, they have their reward in full. But you, when
you fast, anoint your head and wash your face.
– Matthew 6:16-17
Jesus said “Whenever you fast”, not "If you fast." This means
that fasting, like prayer, is not an option. Fasting is part of
the Christian life.

JESUS FASTED.
And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights,
He then became hungry.
– Matthew 4:2
Before Jesus' ministry, He fasted for forty days. He knew
He needed spiritual strength to fulfill His purpose. Fasting
makes us physically weak but spiritually stronger and more
prepared to do God’s work.

THE EARLY CHURCH FASTED.

Then, when they had fasted and prayed and
laid their hands on them, they sent them away.
– Acts 13:3 (see also Acts 14:23)
The Church fasted for Saul (Paul) and Barnabas. Later, Paul
and Barnabas appointed leaders in various churches, fasting
and praying before commending these leaders to the Lord.

FASTING DEMONSTRATES
HUMILITY BEFORE GOD.
But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing
was sackcloth; I humbled my soul with fasting;
and my prayer kept returning to my bosom.
– Psalm 35:13 (See also 1 Kings 21:27-29; Ezra 8:21)
Humility lets us experience God’s grace. When we humble
ourselves in prayer and turn from our wicked ways, God
promises to hear us and answer us according to His perfect
will.
3

FASTING MAKES US SENSITIVE TO THE

LEADING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.
Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan
and was led around by the Spirit in the wilderness for
forty days, being tempted by the devil. And He ate
nothing during those days, and when they had ended,
He became hungry.
– Luke 4:1-2 (See also Acts 13:2, Matthew 17:21, Mark 9:29)
We are prone to forget our priorities. Fasting is a visible
reminder that God takes precedence over all our needs.
Fasting lifts up matters at hand to God who is able to do
awesome works that will bring Him great glory.

FASTING BRINGS ABOUT PERSONAL

AND NATIONAL SPIRITUAL REVIVAL.
And My people who are called by My name humble
themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from
their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will
forgive their sin and will heal their land.
– 2 Chronicles 7:14
So I gave my attention to the Lord God to seek Him by
prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and
ashes.
– Daniel 9:3

Fasting prompts revival to an individual and to the country.

It brings forth a stirring that will heal, change, and prepare
us for greater things in God’s kingdom.

FASTING IS GOOD FOR OUR HEALTH.

Fasting improves our physical condition. Many impurities
in the body are burned up when the body is denied food,
thus, clearing the mind, cleansing, and healing the body.
Even people who are underweight who fast for spiritual
purposes have been known to gain weight after completing
their fasts. Many Bible teachers say that a three-day fast
is especially beneficial for spiritual cleansing and also for
breaking addictive habits.

DIFFERENT KINDS OF FASTING

There are probably as many ways to fast as there are ways

to pray, but these four ideas are a starting point.

NORMAL FAST
In a normal fast, a person goes without food for a
predetermined amount of time. Water is allowed
and necessary. Extreme care should be taken with
long fasts (more than a week), especially if there are
underlying medical conditions. It is wise to consult
your physician if you are planning to embark on a long
fast.

PARTIAL FAST
In a partial fast, a person only eats certain kinds of
food for a period of time or have just one to two
meals a day. In the Bible, Daniel and John the Baptist
maintained a certain diet during their fasts. The 18th
Century preacher John Wesley had only bread and
water for many days as his fast.

JUICE FAST
This is a partial fast specifically restricted
to only juices.

OBJECT FAST
It is possible to fast from something other than food.
Some decide to fast from watching television, using
social media, or using the computer outside of work
or school. The key is to replace the time spent on that
activity with time devoted to the Lord. For married
couples, this could mean abstaining from physical
intimacy to focus on prayer (1 Corinthians 7:5).
5

STARTING
AND ENDING
YOUR FAST
It is important for you to start and end your fast gradually.
Start cutting down on your food intake, especially those with
caffeine (coffee, tea, soft drinks) days before you fast. More
importantly, pray in advance for God to sustain you physically,
mentally, and spiritually during your fast. For the first few
meals after your fast, do not immediately go back to your
normal food intake. Taking soft food in moderate amounts is
best to allow your body to adjust and get back to its normal
digestion.

PRECAUTIONS
While there are benefits in fasting, some should
not fast without professional medical supervision.

For example:
• Persons who are physically too thin
• Persons who are prone to eating disorders
• Those who suffer from weakness or anemia
• Persons who have been diagnosed with certain
ailments that require continuous nutrition
• Pregnant and nursing women
• People taking prescription medication

CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE YOU BEGIN

YOUR FAST. Be aware that some doctors
may not have been trained in this area so their
understanding about it may be limited.

SUGGESTIONS FOR PRAYER

As we go through a number of Scripture passages for the next few
days, we can learn to PRAY THROUGH SCRIPTURE by using the
following outline.

CONFESSION
Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal anything in your life that is not pleasing to
Him. Humbly confess all known sin and receive God’s mercy. Then ask
for God’s forgiveness even for sins you may not be aware you have
committed.

ADORATION
Spend time in personal worship of God, extolling Him for who He is and
what He has done.
Praise Him for His attributes – Almighty, Eternal, Faithful and many
others. Commune with the Lord
by acknowledging His manifest presence in your life.

SUPPLICATION
Lift up your requests to God. Cast all your cares to Him for He cares
for you (1 Peter 5:7.) You can pray specifically for the world, the church,
your community, family, relationships, and then lastly, for your personal
petitions.

THANKSGIVING
Thank the Lord for His many, varied, and specific blessings in your life.
Ask for a heart of gratitude and contentment in all things. By faith, give
thanks to Him in advance, not only for listening to your prayers but for
His answers to all of these petitions.

DAY ONE

FAMILY & YOUTH

8
But Daniel made up his mind that he would not defile himself
with the king’s choice food or with the wine which he drank; so
he sought permission from the commander of the officials that
he might not defile himself. 9 Now God granted Daniel favor and
compassion in the sight of the commander of the officials, 10 and
the commander of the officials said to Daniel, “I am afraid of my
lord the king, who has appointed your food and your drink; for why
should he see your faces looking more haggard than the youths
who are your own age? Then you would make me forfeit my head
to the king.” 11 But Daniel said to the overseer whom the commander
of the officials had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and
Azariah, 12 “Please test your servants for ten days, and let us be
given some vegetables to eat and water to drink. 13 Then let our
appearance be observed in your presence and the appearance
of the youths who are eating the king’s choice food; and deal with
your servants according to what you see.”

So he listened to them in this matter and tested them for ten

14

days. 15 At the end of ten days their appearance seemed better

and they were fatter than all the youths who had been eating the
king’s choice food. 16 So the overseer continued to withhold their
choice food and the wine they were to drink, and kept giving them
vegetables.
As for these four youths, God gave them knowledge and
17

intelligence in every branch of literature and wisdom; Daniel even

understood all kinds of visions and dreams.
Then at the end of the days which the king had specified for
18

presenting them, the commander of the officials presented them

before Nebuchadnezzar. 19 The king talked with them, and out
of them all not one was found like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael
and Azariah; so they entered the king’s personal service. 20 As
for every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the
king consulted them, he found them ten times better than all the
magicians and conjurers who were in all his realm. 21 And Daniel
continued until the first year of Cyrus the king.

2. What did Daniel do differently from the other youths around him? Why
was it so important? (vv 8-12)
3. How did Daniel’s request turn out? What did God do to protect him
and his friends? (vv 9, 14-17)
4. What happened to Daniel and his friends as a result? Why was this so
significant? (vv 18-21)

A P P LY I T

Daniel and his friends, having grown up in families that worshiped

God, were now in a foreign land – serving under several pagan
kings. Despite being exiled, they remained loyal to the Lord and
faithful in all of their dealings. These young Israelites continued in
their convictions to seek God above all, praying for victory in their
journey with God. Daniel’s exemplary standing is one that has
impacted his friends, through nations & kingdoms, fulfilling God’s
purpose in his lifetime.

1. What are a few examples of my personal convictions?

(Ask God in what particular aspect/s of life you need to obey Him.
Write them down here.)

2. How specifically can I be a godly example and influence among

family, classmates/workmates, and friends?

3. In what ways can I develop a lifestyle of prayer and fasting as I go

about my daily activities and various roles in life?
(set Simple, Measurable, Appropriate, Realistic, and Time-bound
[SMART] commitments)
Example: Allot certain days in a week for unhurried time of prayer,
Bible-reading, meditation, and fasting. It is also ideal to practice this
together with your family, small group, or friends.

Pray for the Family:

Ask God to use you as a channel of His love to your close
relationships, relatives, and family members:
- to be a more Christ-like spouse, parent, child, family
member, friend, etc.
- to shepherd our families and friends in the ways of the Lord
- to be filled with the Holy Spirit and exhibit its fruit: love,
joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23)
- to glorify and praise God in all things, even through the
challenging relationships in our families
Let us confess our tendency to take our relationships for granted,
to ignore conflicts and tensions, as well as unforgiveness to
those who have hurt us within our families.
Pray to be more intentional starting this week to a family
member, relative, or friend with whom you need to reconcile.
Take the opportunity to pray with your loved ones and affirm
each other's good qualities and actions.
Take time to ask one another: "How can I improve? How have I
hurt you? Will you forgive me?", then pray for each other.
Pray for the youth in your family, our church, and in our nation
to know Jesus in their most vulnerable years; to be discipled
excellently, develop lifelong godly convictions and habits that will
influence generations and nations for God's purpose.
Pray for Lifestage Ministries:

WORK & FINANCE

Therefore be on the alert, remembering that night and day for a
31

period of three years I did not cease to admonish each one with tears.
32
And now I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which
is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those
who are sanctified. 33 I have coveted no one’s silver or gold or clothes.

and to the men who were with me. 35 In everything I showed you that
by working hard in this manner you must help the weak and remember
the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, ‘It is more blessed to
give than to receive.’”
36
When he had said these things, he knelt down and prayed with
them all.

4. In what way did Paul exhibit a lifestyle of worship & prayer? (vv 19-24, 27,
31-32, 36)

A P P LY I T

The Apostle Paul was a tent-maker and a missionary. He was working

to provide for his needs and the needs of others all while ministering
to people and planting churches across the world. Rather than
preoccupying himself with selfish financial gain, he used his skills
and resources to carry out his calling from the Lord Jesus and to be a
blessing to the communities he reached out to. Lastly, we see from his
very own farewell to the leaders in Ephesus how he shared his life with
them, building Christ-centered relationships along the way.

1. Where has God placed me to fulfill my calling and be of service to Him?

How can I be more intentional towards the people around me and find
ways to minister to them?

Excellence at Work & Ministry: __________________________

Intentionality with Relationships: _________________________

Lifestyle of Prayer and being Spirit-filled: __________________

Sacrifice, Stewardship, and Generosity: ___________________

3. In what ways can I treat my work as my ministry for the Lord? What steps
can I take to establish this?

P R AY I T

GOD’S CALLING
• Seek for His calling upon your life. Offer to Him the way you
work as a pleasing sacrifice. Be ready to obey Him wherever
He will lead you and whatever He will ask you to do.
• Ask the Lord to reveal what He is doing in your community.
Offer to Him your own occupation and become a
representative of His Kingdom.
• Strive for excellence in school or at work - do everything for
God's glory alone.
• Pray for a culture of obeying God's Word and practicing
evangelism and discipleship in your sphere of influence
(family, community, company, and country.)
• Serve in your workplace or community (start a Bible study or
prayer time in your workplace or nearby location)
• Ask the Lord for His wisdom and counsel for your life; let the
Holy Spirit provide a spiritual revival for you with renewed
strength and zeal to follow Him faithfully

GOD’S FINANCIAL PROVISION

• Take the time to cast your financial burdens to the Lord: any
discouragement, anxiety, short-coming, or fear that gets in
the way of your relationship with God.
• Confess the times we let our worries consume us. Repent
from having relied on our own strength or wisdom, rather
than depending on God first and foremost for our needs.
• Ask the Lord for a financial breakthrough and a heart to
seek His Kingdom above all. Let the Holy Spirit enable you
to be a good steward of His resources.
• Pray to be more generous, charitable, and cheerful as you
give your time, talents, and resources to God's work in the
church, or to anyone who may be in need at this moment.

DAY THREE

HEALING: PERSONAL &

RELATIONSHIPS
While He was saying these things to them, a synagogue
18

official came and bowed down before Him, and said, “My
daughter has just died; but come and lay Your hand on her, and
she will live.” 19 Jesus got up and began to follow him, and so did
His disciples.
And a woman who had been suffering from a hemorrhage
20

for twelve years, came up behind Him and touched the fringe
of His cloak; 21 for she was saying to herself, “If I only touch His
READ IT

garment, I will get well.” 22 But Jesus turning and seeing her said,
“Daughter, take courage; your faith has made you well.” At once
the woman was made well.
23
When Jesus came into the official’s house, and saw the flute-
players and the crowd in noisy disorder, 24 He said, “Leave; for
the girl has not died, but is asleep.” And they began laughing at
Him. 25 But when the crowd had been sent out, He entered and
took her by the hand, and the girl got up. 26 This news spread
throughout all that land.
M AT TH E W 9: 1 8 -26

1. For more context, read the parallel accounts in Mark 5:21-43 and
Luke 8:40-56: What was the implication for a synagogue official
to ask help from Jesus? What was the condition of his young

daughter who needed healing? (vv 18-19)

2. What was the health condition of the woman who touched Jesus’
garment secretly? Why was her action so significant? (vv 20-22)
3. How did Jesus respond to the bleeding woman? (v 22)
4. How did the people respond to Jesus as he approached to heal
the young girl? What happened as a result of the healing? (vv 23-
26)
A P P LY I T 17

This story of two individuals who needed healing portrays how

God responds to our desperate prayers and how He brings about
supernatural healing. Despite being a synagogue official, the man
humbly requested for his daughter to be healed—and even when
she is already dead, Jesus was able to raise her back to life. Despite
the fear and isolation of the bleeding woman, she courageously
reached out by faith unto Jesus for her healing. If Jesus can raise the
dead and heal infirmities, He can heal our bodies, minds, hearts, and
even our relationships that need to be mended.

1. Have I experienced a condition that limited or discouraged me

(whether illness, weakness, emotional struggles, or other trials)? How
did I respond?

2. How can I depend on the Lord for my healing, restoration, and

renewal?

3. Do you have a broken relationship with someone right now that

needs restoration? In what way can the Lord bring about healing in
your relationship?
(set Simple, Measurable, Appropriate, Realistic, and Time-bound
[SMART] commitments)
“I will reach out to _____ this week and meet with them to
process and pray together.”

4. Take a few moments to intercede for those who are currently ill and
in need of spiritual healing and salvation. By faith, pray for _______
(mention each person by name, every ______ beginning this week.)

NOTES
18

P R AY I T

Let us confess our unworthiness before the Lord - of His sacrifice

and love; for the times we have relied on our own resources and
wisdom rather than running to Him first and foremost for our
healing and wholeness.
SPIRITUAL HEALING:
• Let us pray in faith for a spiritual breakthrough in the
following areas:
- Pride, self-centeredness, secret sins
- Idolatry, greed, materialism
- Sexual purity, self-control, integrity
- Addictions (alcohol, drugs, pornography, digital/gaming,
gambling, etc)
- Bad influences, ungodly relationships, gossip, slander,
lying
- Spiritual warfare and attacks of the enemy (suicidal
thoughts & tendencies)
• Confess and ask forgiveness for sin, shortcomings, and any
bondage or addiction; seek God's restoration as we repent
and surrender
EMOTIONAL & MENTAL HEALING:
• Let us confess the times we've been overcome by worry;
for the times we have relied on our own resources and
reasoning for our healing and well-being rather than running
to God
• Take the time to cast your burdens unto the Lord: any
discouragement, anxiety, shortcomings, or fear that get in
the way of your relationship with God
• You may know of people who are going through emotional
stress or mental health challenges. Pray for each of them
by name for the Lord's supernatural healing as well as their
salvation
PHYSICAL HEALING:
• As we pray for healing for ourselves or others, let us
trust that God will heal in His time and in His way. Instead
of demanding or dictating how He should heal, let us
remember to pray with child-like faith - believing He is the
same Healer yesterday, today, and forevermore
19

• Ask the Lord for a personal breakthrough in your health

and well-being - pray for a heart that seeks God's kingdom
above all. Let the Holy Spirit guide your lifestyle so that you
may faithfully do your part in caring for your body which is
His temple
• Pray for good health as we do our part in eating properly,
sleeping adequately, exercising regularly, and practicing
soul care daily (spiritual disciplines)
RELATIONAL HEALING:
• Pray that we will be able to love the unlovable and be Christ-
like to those who mistreat us or think ill of us
• Ask for humility and forgiveness when we have been an
enemy to someone and seek to make amends and restore
the relationships
• Let us pray for victory in the following areas:
- Conflict in and among our relationships in the family, at
work/school, among friends, or fellow churchmates
- Unforgiveness
- Bitterness over past hurts
- Desire for vengeance
- Pride, defensiveness, rationalizing sin
- Being abusive or hurtful towards others
- Attacks of the enemy, demonic influence
• Ask the Lord for a relational breakthrough and seek His
forgiveness, reconciliation, and restoration over any conflict
or hurt. Let the Holy Spirit provide a spiritual revival for you,
with renewed strength and zeal to follow Him faithfully

DAY FOUR
CHURCH & NATIONS
When he had seized him, he put him in prison, delivering him to
4

four squads of soldiers to guard him, intending after the Passover

to bring him out before the people. 5 So Peter was kept in the
prison, but prayer for him was being made fervently by the church
to God.
On the very night when Herod was about to bring him forward,
6

Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains,
and guards in front of the door were watching over the prison. 7
And behold, an angel of the Lord suddenly appeared and a light
shone in the cell; and he struck Peter’s side and woke him up,
saying, “Get up quickly.” And his chains fell off his hands. 8 And the
angel said to him, “Gird yourself and put on your sandals.” And he

did so. And he said to him, “Wrap your cloak around you and follow
me.” 9 And he went out and continued to follow, and he did not
know that what was being done by the angel was real, but thought
he was seeing a vision. 10 When they had passed the first and
second guard, they came to the iron gate that leads into the city,
which opened for them by itself; and they went out and went along
one street, and immediately the angel departed from him. 11 When
Peter came to himself, he said, “Now I know for sure that the Lord
has sent forth His angel and rescued me from the hand of Herod
and from all that the Jewish people were expecting.” 12 And when
he realized this, he went to the house of Mary, the mother of John
who was also called Mark, where many were gathered together
and were praying.

3. What was Peter’s realization after he was rescued? How was the

4. Read further in Acts 12:13-17, 24: What did Peter do next? In what
way did God use his imprisonment for the furtherance of the
Gospel?
21

A P P LY I T

The Apostle Peter was imprisoned by King Herod but was

miraculously set free by the King of kings. While he was waiting for
his deliverance, the church was interceding on his behalf. As the
angel carried Peter through to freedom, he could hardly believe
what was happening before his eyes. Yet, when he rejoined the
other Christians, they were believing for the impossible in and
through their prayer to the Lord. This story shows us that our
seemingly imprisoned hopes and limited plans can become an
amazing testimony and a way for the Gospel to be proclaimed.

1. What is my difficult situation right now? How can I best respond

in prayer?

2. In what way can I depend on God and ask for the help &
intercession of fellow believers whenever trials come?
(Set Simple, Measurable, Appropriate, Realistic, and Time-
bound [SMART] commitments)
Example: “I will meet with my small group regularly for
accountability & prayer every week.”
3. Who are the people that I know are currently experiencing
trials?
(Mention each person by name and pray for them to overcome
their present trials)

4. How can my current situation be used to share my testimony

and the Gospel of Jesus to others?

P R AY I T

Pray for the Church:

• Let us pray to be more like Jesus, denying ourselves and
serving others sacrificially, without expecting anything in
return.
• Let us lift our church, Christ’s Commission Fellowship, to
continue magnifying the Lord by making disciples who will
make disciples of all nations.
• Pray for a culture of honoring God’s Word and authorities
in the Church—to submit to God above all and abide by the
wisdom of our elders, pastors, and servant-leaders.
• Intercede for our leaders that the Lord may indeed sustain
them and grant them wisdom on how to navigate the year
ahead, such that God is glorified in their lives and in our
church
- Our Senior Pastor Peter Tan-Chi, his wife Deonna, and
their entire family
- For all the Elders, Pastors, servant-leaders, and
respective families
- CCF Ministry Heads, Staff, Workers, Volunteers,
Partner Missionaries
- Disciplers and Disciples to grow in Christlikeness as
they fulfill the Great Commission
- For the CCF Training Center - that it may be completed
and used ultimately for God's purpose and glory for
years to come
- For our national and international church planting
initiatives to bear fruit for God's glory
• For various CCF satellites, ministries, house fellowships,
and Dgroups all over the country and the world to continue
serving the Lord in steadfastness and faithfulness.
• Pray to be part of a Dgroup or, if you are already in one, to
start your own Dgroup this year.
• Pray for the persecuted church around the world that God
will show Himself powerful to the imprisoned and tortured
believers for their faith in Christ; that the Gospel may
be known to the persecutors for their faithful witness in
extreme suffering.

LORD'S SUPPER GUIDE

for online participants:
PR E PA R E B R E A D
AND JUICE

READ: 1 CORINTHIANS 11:23-29

WHY ARE WE CELEBRATING THE LORD'S SUPPER?

• It is a symbolic meal instituted by our Lord Jesus as a reminder
of what He has done for us. We are to celebrate it often and
remember Jesus by "proclaiming His death until He comes" (v
26.)

• Before Jesus broke the bread and passed the cup, He gave
thanks (v 24) for the opportunity to serve us by giving His body
and blood for our sakes!

• WHAT DOES THE BREAD AND THE WINE (IN OUR

CASE, THE JUICE) SYMBOLIZE?
• The bread symbolizes the body of Jesus which was nailed to
the Cross (v 24.)

• The wine (juice) symbolizes the blood of Jesus which was shed
for us in the New Covenant (v 25.)

• We do not teach that the bread and juice literally become the
body and blood of Jesus Christ.

• Instead, we declare that these elements are representations of

our Lord - who He is and what He has done.

• To partake of these elements, therefore, is a symbolic

expression of our faith in Him and His finished work.
27

WHY ARE WE CELEBRATING THE LORD'S SUPPER?

• We should have a thankful and grateful attitude as we look back
and look forward.

• Look back and thank our Lord Jesus for:

- His free gift of salvation and for forgiving our sins
- His attributes (faithful, forgiving, gracious, holy, loving,
unchanging)
- who He is in our lives (Lord, Master, Savior)
- blessings like our family (spouse, children, parents, siblings),
providing for our needs, etc.
- opportunities to serve Him and His people (family, friends,
church)

• Look forward and thank Jesus for being alive today, and for the
gift of relationships (biological and spiritual family)
- how He will answer our prayers
- how He will walk us through this year (individually, as a family,
as a nation)
- the promise that one day He will return
• Take some time to reflect
