Summary: Plant Adaptation

1. The process plants to survive and become suitable in the environment is called plant
adaptation
2. The place where animals and plants live is called habitat
3. Temperate forest
Many temperate forests are in Canada, the Eastern United States, and China.
The characteristics of temperate forests:
 Temperatures are cold in winter and warm in summer
 Trees are mostly deciduous
 The trees lose their leaves in the winter
The example of plants that grow in temperate forest are maple, oak, chestnut, pine

4. Rain Forest
Many rainforests are in Africa, Asia, Australia, and Central and South America. The biggest
rainforest is the Amazon rainforest.
The characteristics of rainforest:
 Rainforests are warm and wet all the times
 There are many different types of living things. It exists a huge variety of plants and
animals

The example of plants that grow in rainforest are liana, kapok, abiu, orchid

5. Savanna
Savannahs cover half the surface of Africa. There are also savannahs in Australia, South
America, and India
The characteristics of savanna:
 Temperatures are high all year long
 There is a dry season and a wet season. There is almost no rain during a dry season, it
rains a lot during a wet season.
 The land is covered mostly in grass and few trees and shrubs

The example of plants that grow in savanna are red oat grass, lemon grass, star grass

6. Desert
Deserts are the driest places on Earth. Desert is located in Nevada, Mexico, Middle East
The characteristics of the desert:
 Temperatures are very high during the day and cool at night.
 There is very little vegetation

The example of plants that grow in the desert are the saguaro cactus, pencil tree, teddy bear
cholla, ocotillo
