2. At present, many schools and universities have been implementing internet-based learning, as
it supplements the conventional teaching methods. The internet provides a wide variety of
references and information to academics as well as scientific researchers. Students often
turn to it to do their academic assignments and projects.

Net is a tremendous resource, but it must be
used carefully and critically.

leisure whereas, 45 % of respondents chose e-books rather than the printed
versions, for research or assignments.

When electric dipole is placed in uniform electric field, its two charges experience equal and opposite forces,
which cancel each other and hence net force on electric dipole in uniform electric field is zero. However these
forces are not collinear, so they give rise to some torque on the dipole. Since net force on electric dipole in
uniform electric field is zero, so no work is done in moving the electric dipole in uniform electric field.
However some work is done in rotating the dipole against the torque acting on it.

(c) pEsinθ, 2pEcosθ
(d) pEcosθ, – pEsinθ

22. Case Study Question 3 :

When an insulator is placed in an external field, the dipoles become aligned. Induced surface charges on the
insulator establish a polarization field Ēi in its interior. The net field Ē in the insulator is the vector sum of Ē,
and Ēi as shown in the figure.

On the application of external electric field, the effect of aligning the electric dipoles in the insulator is
called
polarisation and the field Ē; is known as the polarisation field.

d. Aniline does not react with methyl chloride in the presence of anhydrous AlCl3 catalyst.
6) Write the structures of main products when benzene diazonium chloride reacts with the following reagents.
a) CuCN
b) CH3CH2OH
c) KI

7) Benzene ring in aniline is highly activated. This is due to the sharing of lone pair of nitrogen with the ring
which results in increase in the electron density on the ring and hence facilitates the electrophilic attack. The
substitution mainly takes place at Ortho and para positions because electron density is more at Ortho and
para positions. On reaction with aqueous bromine all the ortho and para position get substituted resulting in
the formation of 2,4,6- tribromoaniline. To get a monobromo compound, the amino group is acetylated
before bromination. After bromination, the bromoacetanilide is acid hydrolysed to give the desired
halogenated amine.

b) Explain why: in aniline, the substitution mainly takes place at Ortho and Para positions.
c) Show the conversion of benzene into aniline.

8) In amines the N atoms of the amino group are Sp3hybridised. Amines readily lose its electron pair and act as
a base. In aliphatic amines, the alkyl group tends to increase the electron density on the nitrogen atom due to
the +I effect. In aromatic amines, the basic strengths are influenced by the presence of an electron
withdrawing group at the O-, m- and p- position in the ring.
a) Lower member of aliphatic amines is soluble in water. Why?
b) Out of (CH3)3N and (CH3)2NH which one is more basic in aqueous solution?

job to control a country’s economy through monetary policy. If the economy is moving slowly or going
backward, there are steps that central bank can take to boost the economy. These steps, whether they are asset
purchases or printing more money, all involve injecting more cash into the economy. The simple supply and
demand economic projection occur and currency will devalue. When the opposite occurs, and the economy is
growing, the central bank will use various methods to keep that growth steady and in-line with other economic
factors such as wages and prices. Whatever the central bank does or in fact don’t do, will affect the currency of
that country. Sometimes, it is within the central bank’s interest to purposefully affect the value of a currency. For
