BACKGROUND
This one-week Faculty Development Program (FDP) is aimed for College and University
teachers in various disciplines of science and engineering, and industrial experts. The
approach of teaching has changed to a new paradigm, and the teachers need to be updated with
the pedagogy for better teaching-learning experience. The exposure to tools like open-source
courseware, simulation tools, and scientific approaches of planning and execution of
experiments will enhance the attendee’s inquisitiveness and understanding of the subjects.
Interdisciplinary subjects like ‘renewable energy’ are getting due attention in the science and
engineering course curriculum. So, teachers need to refresh the knowledge on these subjects
for better pedagogical approach. The aim of this Faculty Development Programme (FDP) is to
bring the teachers/industrial experts of different engineering, science and allied subjects onto
one platform to update them with the recent advances in the control engineering, power
electronics and renewable energy technology.
ABOUT NSUT

Netaji Subhas University of Technology (NSUT) formerly known as Netaji Subhas Institute of
Technology (NSIT) is a seat of higher technical education to provide education and research in
branches of engineering, technology, sciences, humanities, social sciences, and management and
for the advancement of learning and dissemination of knowledge in such branches. It was
established in the year 1983 as Delhi Institute of Technology with the objective of meeting the
growing demands of manpower in the emerging fields of engineering and technology with a close
social and industrial interface.
The overall academic environment in the institution is highly conducive for achieving excellence in
education and research. NSUT secured 60th ranking in NIRF-2023 ranking, 7th Rank in India
Today Ranking 2023 and has secured 3rd rank in the award ceremony of ARIIA Rankings 2021
under State University & Deemed University (Govt. & Govt. Aided).

DEPARTMENT OF INSTRUMENTATION AND CONTROL ENGINEERING

The Department of Instrumentation & Control Engineering (ICE) was established in the year 1983.
All through its sparkling history of 39 years, the department of ICE has been known for its
exceptionally strong Under-Graduate, Post-Graduate and Research programmes. Instrumentation
and Control is a very broad area in the sense that it has an interdisciplinary character. There is a
proliferation of a variety of Instrumentation systems for a variety of purpose. There is hardly any
area of Engineering, Science and Technology where Instrumentation in one form or the other is not
needed. The Department offers many courses in Electrical, Electronics and Computer Engineering
also, apart from a variety of courses from Instrumentation Technology, modern control theory,
Biomedical Instrumentation, Robotics, Industrial Electronics, Computer Controlled
Instrumentation, Artificial Intelligence etc.

OBJECTIVES OF THE FDP COURSE

The objectives of the faculty development program on 'Control Techniques for Renewable Energy
Systems' are designed to equip participating faculty members with specialized knowledge and
skills essential for addressing the dynamic challenges in renewable energy integration. Firstly, the
program aims to deepen participants understanding of control methodologies tailored for
renewable energy systems, including grid integration, energy storage, and distributed generation.
Through theoretical lectures, practical demonstrations, and case studies, participants will gain
insights into cutting-edge control strategies, such as model predictive control, adaptive control, and
hierarchical control architectures, tailored to the unique characteristics of renewable energy
sources. Secondly, the program seeks to enhance participants' proficiency in analyzing and
optimizing renewable energy systems' performance, reliability, and efficiency. Additionally, the
program aims to foster collaborative research networks among academia, industry practitioners,
and research institutions to facilitate knowledge exchange, innovation, and interdisciplinary
research collaborations. By achieving these objectives, the faculty development program
endeavors to empower educators to spearhead advancements in renewable energy systems through
research, teaching, and industry engagement, thus contributing to sustainable energy transitions
and addressing global energy challenges.
We invite teachers and industrial experts to join us on this journey of Viksit Bharat 2047, as we
collectively strive to empower the future through advancements in electric vehicles and renewable
energies. Together, paving the way towards a sustainable and energy-efficient tomorrow.
Course contents are:
1) Fundamentals of control systems and innovations in this area
2) Introduction to Renewable Energy Systems
3) Power Electronics in Renewable Energy Applications
4) Control Techniques for Renewable Energy Systems
5) Grid Integration of Renewable Energy Systems, Smart Grids and Microgrids
6) Electric Vehicle Technologies and Charging Infrastructure
7) Modeling and Simulation of Renewable Energy Systems
8) Case Studies, Hands-on Workshops and Laboratory Sessions.
