BIBLE STUDY OUTLINE FOR THE MONTH OF JUNE (WEEK 2): INTERCESSORY

PRAYER

Welcome to the glorious month of June, our month of Prayer and Praise! You can watch a rebroadcast
of the June Global Communion service on https://ceflix.org.

Our Bible Study this month is on the topic: INTERCESSORY PRAYER. This outline has been created to
guide your Cell's Bible Study Class in the month of June. In preparing for the Bible Study Class, it’s vital
that you (Cell Leaders and Bible Study Class Teachers) study this outline prior to the meeting date to
acquaint yourself with the topic and content. During the meeting, all the Scriptures given in the outline
are to be read out. It’s important that the class participants look into their Bibles while the Scriptures
are read for proper assimilation, so kindly inform them before the meeting date to come along with
their Bibles. You may also assign some of the participants to read some of the Scriptures during the
study. As a strategic and proactive Bible Study Class Teacher, ensure you make provision for first
timers that will be in attendance, who may not have their Bibles with them; or you may direct them to
download the Rhapsody of Realities Study Bible app from the Loveworld App Store at
www.lwappstore.com. In addition, don’t rush through the subject as you teach; remember that our
intention is to have every member of the class understand the subject matter and what the Bible teaches
on it. At different points of the class, request feedback from the participants to ensure they are following
and understanding the subject being taught. Please note that all Scripture references are in the King
James Version (KJV), unless otherwise stated. Finally, ensure you communicate the class activity or
actions to be taken before the next class and monitor to ensure every member of the cell is participating
in these activities.
WHAT IS PRAYER?

Prayer is primarily our communication with the Lord. Communication has a purpose, and the purpose
usually determines the mode and relevant details for the communication to be effective.

WHY WE PRAY

Praying is such an important part of our lives as Christians. First of all, we must recognize prayer as a
privilege as well as an honour. Every moment of prayer is an investment in eternity and true prayer is a
romance of righteousness. Our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ, and through
prayer we participate in the communion of the God-kind.

Scripture enjoins us to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Prayer helps to season our spirits as
a dependable receptacle for God’s Spirit and power. Then we can connect to His ideas, visions and
leadings more easily in order to change the world.

When we pray, we make tremendous power available, dynamic in its working, causing changes in our
favour. Certain prayer sessions are specially designed by the Lord to help straighten out things in the
spirit realm regarding our immediate or later future as individuals, families or ministries. How
wonderful that we can change circumstances and alter destinies in His Name through prayer! We serve
a kind, loving, great and gracious God who daily loads us with benefits (Psalms 68:19). During times of
prayer, we can meditate on His goodness and appropriate these benefits to our life’s circumstances.

It is God’s earnest desire to have a rich, vibrant and enduring fellowship with His children.

KINDS OF PRAYER

In this Bible Study, we will focus on the Prayer of Intercession. However, there are several types of
prayer shown to us from the Scriptures, including: Prayer of Agreement; Prayer of Petition; Prayer of
Faith; Prophetic Prayer; Prayer of Worship and Praise; Praying with the Spirit; Prayer for the Saints;
Prayer for Material Needs.

For an extensive study on all the kinds of prayer, purchase the prayer classic by the man of God, Pastor
Chris, How to Pray Effectively, through your local church office. You can also purchase and download
the e-book from the Rhapsody of Realities mobile app, available on the Loveworld App Store
(www.lwappstore.com).
INTERCESSORY PRAYER

“Moreover, as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you: but I
will teach you the good and the right way” [1 Samuel 12:23]

Man isn’t helpless and hopeless today; he isn’t without an intercessor. We’re the ones called to intercede
and see to it that God’s purpose and perfect will are fulfilled in the earth, and in the lives of men. He
gave us the power, the ability, and the responsibility.

Paul, writing to Timothy in 1 Timothy 2:1 said, “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications,
prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men.” Also, in Ephesians 6:18, he declared,
“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all
perseverance and supplication for all saints.”

As we pray in intercession, the Holy Spirit takes hold together with us against the forces of darkness, to
obtain that which belongs to us, and to establish the righteousness of God in every place. We carry out
this ministry through, and by the Spirit. When we take our place of intercession, the Lord says we’ll lead
a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty (1 Timothy 2:2); our societies will be established
in righteousness.

Intercession is always on behalf of others; you’re concentrating the influence of God’s

power toward others for their good; and that requires some persistence in prayer.
Imagine that someone has been sick for a long time with cancer or some deadly infirmity; he may not be
able to appropriate the blessings of Christ about healing and health for himself. However, through your
intercession, he can receive a miracle, as you take his place in prayer and rebuke the adversary.

God has set us on the earth in these extraordinary times for the purpose of changing lives.

Rules For Intercessory Prayer

1. You don’t intercede for yourself, because intercession is always for others.

2. You can continue to pray about the same thing over and over again until the change comes.

OUR FOCUS IN PRAYER

In these final hours of the Church Age, we have a special and most important role to play in restraining
evil in the world and establishing the perfect Will of God in all nations.

2 Timothy 2:1-4 says, “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and
giving of thanks, be made for all men; for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a
quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of
God our Saviour; who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.”

Here are four areas of focus in prayer, in these times:

1. In prayer for all men, we declare that this is the day of salvation and we break the hold
of satan over men’s minds. We are not just speaking; we have arguments.

“To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God,
that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith
that is in me.” [Acts 26:18]

“In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the
glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” [2 Corinthians 4:4]

2. Pray that the Lord of the Harvest will send forth labourers into the harvest field of
leaders and governments of nations.

“After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face
into every city and place, whither he himself would come. Therefore said he unto them, The harvest
truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send
forth labourers into his harvest. Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves”.
[Luke 10:1-3]

“And Jonathan said to the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over unto the
garrison of these uncircumcised: it may be that the Lord will work for us: for there is no restraint to
the Lord to save by many or by few.” [1 Samuel 14:6]

3. Pray to the Lord to change the minds of the leaders from foolishness and deception to
wisdom and truth.

“The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he
will.” [Proverbs 21:1]

4. Pray to overthrow the work of ungodly men who fill the earth with violence, poverty
and death, keeping men from experiencing the goodness of God in the earth.

“He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD.” [Psalm 33:5]
CONCLUSION

In the prayer of intercession, your objective is to prevail on someone else to align with God’s will. You’re
concentrating the influence of God’s power towards others for their good, and that requires some
persistence in prayer. That means you must be willing to continue in prayer for as long as is required
until you get that note of victory in your spirit, and are certain that you have what you asked for. Till
this happens, you don’t stop praying.
