Tourism Organizations

Since tourism is a diverse industry made up of many different segments, there


is a need to interrelate and share information. This has led to the establishment of
several public and private organizations at the international, regional national
and even local levels
Aside from the suppliers of services and facilities to tourists, there are also
several tourism organizations that play significant roles in the tourism industry.
These organizations influence and contribute to the smooth running of the
tourism industry.

UNWTO Objectives
1. Monitors and identifies trends in the world tourism;
2. Studies travel demand, marketing trends, tourist motivation, and alternative
approaches to marketing;
3. Surveys the environmental effects of travel growth and makes
recommendations for the protection of natural and cultural resources;
4. Provides services for developing and organizing tourism for countries;
5. Serves as a clearing house for tourist information;
6. Informs members about tourism and hospitality development;
7. Conducts vocational training programs;
8. Works for the elimination or reduction of government measures for the
international travel and standardization of requirements. This includes passports,
visas, police registration and frontier formalities;

Aviation Organization
(ICAO)

The Council of ICAO first appointed Dr. Fang


Liu (China) as Secretary General of the
Organization for a three-year term, from 1

(PATA)

(CTA)
The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), with headquarters in Barbados is

(APEC)

Office of the Secretary


The Office of the Secretary provides leadership, direction, and substance to the overall
operations of the Department. It formulates policies, plans , programs, rules, and
regulations; reviews and evaluates the performance of the Tourism Master Plan and advises
the President on all matters affecting the tourism program of the country.

Tourism Promotions Sector


The Tourism Promotion Sector has the primary function of promoting the Philippines as a
tourist destination domestically and internationally. It devises integrated marketing and
promotional activities such as information dissemination, public relations, special events,
and related tourism programs. It likewise supervises the overseas field offices established to
implement and enhance the tourism development and promotion program of the
Department in the international field.

Tourism Services and Regional Offices Sector


The Tourism Services and Regional Offices Sector is tasked to ensure the pleasant entry,
stay, and exit of tourists. It formulates standards of quantity and efficiency for tourism-
oriented establishments, among others, done through an accreditation system. Tourist
establishments' compliance to policies are monitored to make sure that their facilities and
services are operated and maintained according to acceptable international norms. The
Sector also supervises DOT's regional operations established to implement the policies,
plans, programs, and regulations of the Department and to maintain the delivery of
efficient and effective frontline services for the tourism industry.

Planning, Product Development and Coordination


The Tourism Planning, Product Development and Coordination Sector is responsible for the
formulation and updating of the Tourism Master Plan, together with its component
programs. The Sector monitors the effective implementation of the Tourism Master Plan
and, in coordination with the private sector and other government institutions , develops
and conceptualizes new products and investment opportunities designed to enhance
tourist sites and facilities.

TIEZA acts as Department of Tourism’s implementing arm in providing support


infrastructures and facilitating investments in tourism enterprise zones (TEZ) nationwide.
This is carried out through its main functions — infrastructure development; designation,
regulation and supervision of TEZs; management of its existing assets or facilitation of
their privatization; and administration of the collection of the Philippine Travel Tax.

As the country’s builder of tourism infrastructures, TIEZA brings development to areas


with high cultural, historical, religious, heritage and/or eco-tourism values, helping
shape a deep sense of awareness and pride for the Filipino’s traditions, natural bounties
and uniqueness as a race.

(HRAP)

HRAP is the umbrella organization of hotels and restaurant in the Philippines. It was
founded on September 12, 1951 by 10 executives from the leading hotels and
restaurants in Manila.

Its main goal was to upgrade the caliber of the local hospitality industry by
improving management skills, personnel services, and overall standards while
keeping abreast of trends and developments abroad. While it has achieved some
of its goals, it is still working to uplift standards and identify new horizons for the
hotel and restaurant industry in the 21st century.

establishments and association.
