PROJECT TITLE

The Creation of Child-Friendly Village Initiative: Maternal and Child Health

Solution in North and South west Region of Cameroon

PROJECT INTRODUCTION

The Child Friendly Village Initiative (CFVI) is a UNICEF-led initiative that

supports local governments in realizing the rights of children at the local level
using the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child as its foundation. It is also a
network that brings together government and other stakeholders such as civil
society organizations, the private sector, academia, media and, importantly,
children themselves who wish to make their cities and communities more
child friendly.

Maternal and child health (MCH) care is the health service provided to mothers
(women in their child bearing age) and children. The targets for MCH are all
women in their reproductive age groups, 15 - 49 years of age, children, school age
population and adolescents. Throughout the world, especially in the developing
countries, there is an increasing concern and interest in maternal and child health
care. This commitment towards MCH care gains further strength after the World
Summit for Children, 1991, which gave serious consideration and outlined major
areas to be addressed in the provision of Maternal and Child Health Care service
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

All children, including those with developmental delays and disabilities, have the
right to live healthy lives, where they feel safe and secure. Statistic shows that in
2019, 6.1 million children under the age of 15 died, including 5.2 million children
under the age of 5. An estimate of 810 women dies every day from causes related
to pregnancy or childbirth. However, to reach their full potential, children and
mothers need high-quality health care and services especially in life’s early
moments but millions do not receive them. The absent of these services lead to
children’s disabilities and developmental delays like pneumonia, malnutrition,
cerebral palsy and genetic disorders. The introduction of Child friendly village
committee (CFVC) will bring health systems (Maternal and Health Care Centers)
fully equipped to support routine health interactions among children, families and
caregivers in north and south west region.

PROJECT GOAL

The main aim of this project is to provide Maternal and Health Care service in
order to decrease maternal, childhood morbidity and mortality by bringing health
care and services closer to children and mothers with developmental delays and
disabilities in urban and rural areas of the North and south west Region of
Cameroon. In order to achieve the main aim of this project, the following specific
objectives are stated.

➢ To provide primary health care services

➢ To prevent malnutrition and infection among mothers and children through

education in health and nutrition

➢ To create employment to the various communities

➢ To reduce child mortality rate.

RISK ANALYSIS

The various risks are identified in creating a child friendly initiative. They are seen
bellow

• Stiff resistant due to religious practices.

• Accessibility due to poor roads.

• Financial risk

• Accident at work.

RISK MITIGATION PLAN

Stiff Resistant: Local authorities must ensure that all aspects of the legal and
policy frameworks, which are under their control, protect and promote children’s
rights.

Accessibility: The project team members will make of motor bike to access into
the interiors.

Financial risk: The project team will mitigate this risk by sourcing from different
sources of finance and ensure that every project transaction is back by receipts.
Accident at work: project team will be provided with health and safety equipment
when carrying out their various activities such as gloves, lab jacket and safety
shoes.

PROJECT BENEFICIARIES AND BENEFITS FROM PROJECT

This project will be beneficiary to the following group of stakeholders.

Stakeholders Benefits
Community Maternal and child health care services
Investors Recognition
Project team members Reward, salaries, motivation etc
Suppliers of materials Revenue and good relationship

MONITORING AND EVALUATION FRAME WORK

A child-friendly city will keep a constant check on the state of its children.
Systematically collecting a range of statistics and information on children is
fundamental to developing child-centered policies. Disaggregating the data is
necessary to highlight discrimination, for example against girls or boys, minority
ethnic groups, disabled children and other groups.
EVALUATION PLAN

Evaluation is a continuous process of assessing the success of a plan. This project

will be done under three types of evaluation: pre-project evaluation, routine project
evaluation and post project evaluation.

Pre-project Evaluation: This evaluation process is done at the beginning of the

project that is evaluation of the materials for providing child health service
community accessibility.

Routine project evaluation: This is an evaluation done during the implementation

of Child Friendly Village that is checking on community commitment to the
project and the raw materials used to implement the project.

Post Project Evaluation: This is evaluation done after creating the Child Friendly
Village that is it reviews whether the various communities have embraced the
project; identify where there is need for adjustment.

SUSTAINABILITY PLAN

The exercise of collecting data, monitoring progress and reporting not only looks at
available information but also clearly identifies gaps in knowledge which inhibit
evidence-based policy-making. To get an accurate assessment, this process will
include children and youth. An independent assessment of the process of building a
child-friendly village and results will be conducted in the spirit of good
governance. Reporting will be made public and be published in a format that is
accessible to not only key policymakers and community leaders but also to the
general public and children.

CONCLUSION
Every child and young person have the right to grow up in an environment where
they feel safe and secure, have access to basic services and clean air, water, can
play, learn, grow and voices is heard and matters
