1. GENERAL

1.1. PURPHOSE

The purpose of this procedure is to describe the Lowering and Backfilling work
method that will be carried out correctly and using materials that comply with
the specified requirements..

1.2. SCOPE OF WORK

This document covers the requirements that must be carried out for pipe
lowering and pipe filling work for Nitrogen pipe and Hydrogen pipes.

2. REFRENCE

• ASME B31.8, Gas Transmission and Distribution Piping System.

• API 1104L, Specification for Line Pipe.
• Kepmen No 300.K/38/M.PE/1997, Keselamatan Kerja Pipa Penyalur Minyak
dan Gas Bumi.
• SNI 13-3474 Sistem Perpipaan Transmisi dan Distribusi Gas

3. MANPOWER & EQUIPMENT

3.1. Manpower

List of labor and quantity of labor involved in lowering dan backfilling :

a. Constructionn Manager = 1 person

b. Supervisor = 1 person
c. QA/QC Inspector = 1 person
d. Operator Lowering dan Backfilling = 20 person
e. HSE Officer = 1 person

3
3.2. Equipment

• Transportation Car = 2 unit

• Tripod 1 Ton = 5 unit
• Chain Block 1 Ton = 5 unit
• Shackles 1 Ton = 5 unit
• Sling Belt 1,5 Ton = 5 unit

3.3. SAFETY EQUIPMENT

- Personal protective equipment ( PPE ) = 24 set

- first aid box = 1 unit
- Fire Extingusher = 3 unit
- Warning Sign = 2 unit
- Safety Line = 2 unit
- Safety Cone = 2 unit
- Barricade = 1 roll

3.4. LOWERING & BACFILLING EQUIPMENT

- hoe, = 20 unit
- Stamper = 1 unit

4. Work Methode

4.1. Lowering work

Lowering Methodology using a Tripod,

1. Pipe strangling manually in an area that has been determined
according to the area that will be installed after excavation, the pipe is
continued to be connected using the welding method and lifted using
a tripod to position it in the excavation area
2. Install Sand Bag for support pipe every 6m
3. Make sure the elevation same as drawing

4
4. Fill in excavation with sand Thickness 10cm before lowering pipe
5. The area is ready with support sand bags.
6. The pipe is ready to be treated for lowering work.

4.2. Preparation

Preparation for Lowering work includes the following stages:

• Ensure that the excavation dimensions are in accordance with the

trenching procedure.

• Ensure that the excavation depth refers to the requirements and the
implementation refers to the As-Built Survey Procedure.

• Make sure the minimum Depth Cover is 1.8 meters from the Top of Pipe.

• Make sure all equipment to be used is in good and adequate

condition.

• Coordinate with related agencies regarding area arrangements.

• Make sure the Free Span distance is within the Free Span tolerance
limit.

• Ensure Pipeline Lowering analysis has been carried out and approved
before Lowering work begins.

• Make sure the bottom of the excavation is free from rocks or other hard
objects that could damage the pipe wrapping.

• For rocky excavation areas, the bottom of the excavation must be

filled with sand (conditional).

• Make sure each pipe connection to be lowered has passed NDT.

• Ensure that all pipes that will be lowered into the excavation have
passed the holiday test.

5
• If there is standing water in the excavation, dewatering is carried out
first before lowering work.

4.3. Implementation

• The pipe lowering process must use a sling belt so as not to damage
the protective layer of pipe wrapping.

• Pipe lowering process using a tripod and chain block.

• To avoid stress on the pipe, make sure the tripod is in the correct and
safe position when lowering the pipe.

• Carry out an As-Built Survey by measuring according to references that

can be used as a reference

• Carry out a Free Span inspection, if there is still a free span that exceeds
the calculation limit, a sandbag will be installed between the free span.

• At the ends of the pipe segments, covers are installed to prevent

damage and dirt during mobilitation, stacking / storage, stringing, and
placement in the installation position.

4.4. BACKFILLING WORK

4.4.1. Preparation

 Ensure that the material to be used for backfilling is available and

meets the approved specifications.
 Ensure that all equipment that will be used for the backfilling
process is available and suitable for use.
 Make sure there is no equipment left in the excavation before
backfilling work is carried out.

6
4.4.2. Implementation

 Carry out backfilling work gradually and evenly from the top

of the pipe.

 After backfilling, compact it using a stamper gradually.

 Backfilling work continues with the installation of Marker

Tape at a distance of 50 cm from the Top of Pipe.

 Compact using a stamper, until it reaches sufficient

density.

5. Inspection And Documentation

5.1. LOWERING

Inspection of lowering should include the following :

- Min Depth of Cover pipe

- Distance of pipe to excavation wall

- Straightness of pipe

- As-Built

5.2. BACKFILLING

Several things that need to be done and paid attention by Supervisors

and QA / QC Inspectors in the field are as follows:

• Ensure that the backfilling work process is carried out with the right materials
and methods in accordance with established procedures.
• The completed backfilling must be in its original condition and have good
density.
• Make daily work reports and report to Supervisor.
• Backfill materials
• Installation of marker tape

7
• Compaction of each layer

6. HEALTH, WORK SAFETY & ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

Things that must be considered regarding Health, Work Safety and Environmental
Protection include:

• Before carrying out activities in the field, a safety talk is conducted first led by
the HSE team.
• Safety and health procedures for excavation work must refer to the
Occupational Safety, Health and Environmental Management (K3PL)
Procedure Document
• must use equipment and tools that have been inspected and are fit for use.
• Ensure Personal Protective Equipment is always used.
