    PRE-CLASS DISCUSSION: LECTURE OUTLINE


    Review of AutoCAD tools from ENG 201 Introduction to AutoCAD, use of
    AutoCAD for 2-D and 3-D
    STARTING A NEW DRAWING
    drafting/modelling
     Click on New drawing tool from the standard
    toolbar as shown in the figure below

     Select the file pull down menu (2007 version) or the autoCAD icon and click New as shown
    below.

     Type the new in the command window and press the enter button on your keyboard.
    OR
     Hold down the control key and press N (i.e. ctrl + N)
    The dialogue box in below comes up after the above actions.

     You can choose to use the acadiso template to set up the drawing using millimeter values
    and ISO style dimensions or click on the arrow beside open and select open with no
    template-metric for dimensions in mm without template. NB: the format tool on the
    standard toolbar (2009 and earlier versions) can help you adjust the drawing units,
    drawing limits etc. However, in 2016 version, click on the AutoCAD icon and select
    drawing utilities etc.

    TO ALIGN THE DRAWING LIMITS WITH A STANDARD A2 (METRIC) PAPER SIZE


    1. Create an acadiso template. Type limit in the command window or select drawing limits from
    the format menu (2007 version)
    2. You will be prompted by the command window thus: Reset model space limits; Specify lower
    left corner or [ON/OFF]; <0.0000.0.0000>
    3. Press the enter key or the right button of your mouse. This means you have accepted the
    default value of 0,0 on the lower left of the drawing screen which is the origin on the X,Y axis.
    4. You’ll be prompted to specify upper right corner <420,297>; Type 420,594 for A2 paper size
    (or the dimensions for the desired paper size) and press enter. This changes the upper right
    corner of the drawing screen to an X,Y value as specified. There’ll be no visible change on
    the screen. The new limit extends beyond the current screen calibration. The screen must be
    recalibrated to align with the new drawing limits.

    5. Type zoom. You’ll be prompted to specify corner of window, enter scale factor (nX,nXP) or
    [All/Centre/Dynamic/Extent/Previous/Scale/Window]<realtime>:
    6. Type A; press enter key. The A stands for the zoom all command which will align whatever
    drawing limits that have been defined to the drawing screen.
    CLASS PRACTICE
    Using the suitable set of tools, produce the 2-D drawing of the gaskets below.
