1 INTRODUCTION
Dear Student
We are pleased to welcome you to the teaching practice module. Teaching practice is your
professional development and an integral component of the Initial Teacher Education (ITE)
Programme. This ITE programme is an accredited requirement of teacher education as
mandated by the Minimum Requirements for Teacher Education Qualifications (MRTEQ).
This tutorial letter contains Assignment 01 and important information on teaching practice
requirements.
PLEASE NOTE:
All enquiries regarding your placement and other TP admin-related matters should be
directed to the Teaching Practice Office coordinator of the province in which you are
planning your placement.
Similarly, do not contact your lecturer(s) about school placement and/or TP admin-
related queries. These details you will find in Tutorial letter 102.

• The lecturers and Teaching Practice Office are aware of the different terms of
government and private schools, as well as international schools. The teaching
practice must be completed within the timeline provided and as per the requirements
specified by the university.
• All arrangements must be made at the beginning of the academic year. Immediately
after registration, you must read the relevant study material before any arrangements
are made with the respective school/schools where you are planning to do your
teaching practice.
• It is compulsory to request permission from the principal of the school at which you
intend doing your teaching practice. Your study material (Tutorial Letter 102) and
portfolio requirements must be provided to the principal as proof of what is expected
of you during the five weeks teaching practice.
• Proof of placement is needed before you start your teaching practice. It can take 36
days to be issued. No applications for placement will be accepted post the closing date
of Assessment 1.
• Complete the Online TPU tool on myUnisa or the respective links (Tutorial Letter 102)
to obtain proof of placement.

Special Notice: University rules apply if you could register for more than one TP module. No
lecturer can change this decision.
• If you are registered for two TP modules, no school-based placement may overlap
or be conducted at the same time. Ensure that the proof of placement form for each
module reflects the correct number of weeks.
• The Department Higher Education and Training requires 5 weeks for each TP
practice year module.
• Make sure you submit your portfolio within three weeks of teaching practice
completion. Only then can you start the placement of the second module you are
possibly registered for. For example:
Therefore, your online placement application must contain the TP modules you were
allowed to register for in 2024 as there are prerequisites required.
• Any student found conducting or completing teaching practice concurrently will fail
to meet the requirements.
• If, during 2023, a student attempts to do two TP module placements for 5 weeks
instead of 10 weeks, only one placement will be recognised (based on the year level),
which means one TP module will have to be redone either before the closing date, or
you must register again for the following year to complete the TP module.
• All changes to placement dates and any related problems must be communicated with
your workstation/provincial coordinator at the Teaching Practice Office. The details
are in Tutorial Letter 102; you must read this tutorial letter carefully.
