This Chapter of the paper presents the problem and its setting. The topics tackled in
this chapter are: Introduction and Background, Framework, Statement of the problem,
Hypothesis, Conceptual, Scope and Delimitation, Significance of study, and Definition of
terms.

INTRODUCTION
Effective time management is crucial for academic success, especially for Grade
11 STEM students who face the challenges of demanding coursework and multiple
commitments. The ability to manage time efficiently allows students to prioritize tasks,
allocate sufficient study time, and meet deadlines. However, many Grade 11 STEM
students struggle with time management, which can negatively impact their academic
performance. This research aims to examine the relationship between time management
and academic performance among Grade 11 STEM students at Citi Global College during
the school year 2023-2024.

In this study, we will explore the current time management practices of Grade 11 STEM
students, identify the factors that influence their time management skills, and investigate
the impact of time management on academic performance. By understanding the
challenges and barriers that students face in managing their time effectively, we can
develop strategies and interventions to improve time management skills and enhance their
performance in terms of academic in Grade 11 STEM students.

The findings of this research will not only contribute to the existing body of knowledge on
time management in educational settings but also provide valuable insights for educators,
students, and other stakeholders. Educators can use the findings to design targeted
interventions and support systems to help students develop effective time management
skills. Students, on the other hand, can benefit from the study by gaining a better

understanding of the importance of time management and learning practical strategies to

improve their performance in academic.

Ultimately, this research aims to shed light on the relationship between time management
and academic performance among Grade 11 STEM students at Citi Global College,
providing valuable insights and recommendations for improving academic performance
and overall well-being.

BACKROUND OF THE STUDY

Grade 11 STEM students face unique challenges in managing their time effectively
due to the demanding nature of their coursework and multiple commitments. Science,
Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects require rigorous problem-
solving, laboratory experiments, and project-based learning, resulting in heavy workloads
and tight deadlines. However, many Grade 11 STEM students struggle with time
management, leading to incomplete or delayed task completion and compromised
academic performance. Understanding the factors that contribute to poor time management
among these students is crucial for developing interventions to enhance their time
management skills and improve performance in academic.

The transition from Grade 10 to Grade 11 is a critical period for students, as they
experience increased academic demands and higher expectations. The Grade 11 STEM
curriculum involves more complex concepts and advanced coursework, requiring students
to invest more time and effort in their studies. Additionally, extracurricular activities, such
as participating in STEM competitions or clubs, further add to their responsibilities and
time commitments. Poor time management skills can lead to increased stress levels,
anxiety, and burnout among Grade 11 STEM students. It can also result in a lack of focus,
poor organization, and difficulty meeting deadlines, which negatively impact academic

performance. By investigating the relationship between time management and academic

performance among Grade 11 STEM students, this study aims to provide insights and
recommendations to improve their academic performance and overall well-being.

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
The theoretical framework for this research paper encompasses Time Management
Theory, Motivation Theory, Cognitive Load Theory, Social Cognitive Theory, and
Academic Performance Theory. These theories provide insights into the factors influencing
Grade 11 STEM students' academic performance at Citi Global College in the school year
2023-2024. Time Management Theory explores how students allocate and prioritize their
time, while Motivation Theory examines the intrinsic and extrinsic factors that drive
students' engagement in academic performance. Cognitive Load Theory focuses on the
cognitive demands students face, and Social Cognitive Theory considers the role of
observational learning and social influences. Lastly, Academic Performance Theory
highlights the relationship between effective time management and academic success.

By integrating these theories, we aim to understand how time management practices,

motivation, cognitive load, social influences, and academic performance are
interconnected. This framework guides our analysis and contributes to the development of
effective time management strategies for Grade 11 STEM students at Citi Global College
in the school year 2023-2024
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study determine how time management affects Grade 11 stem students
academic performance. This study will be conducted at Senior High School Department at
Citi Global College School Year 2023-2024. The result of this study can lead to good
academic performance, decreased stress label, and good work-life balance.
