Today, 8 June 2023. I am an IB Language and Literature student.

Here, I will explain my

Individual Oral that brings up a Global Issue that everyone calls Beauty Standard, but
more specifically the idea of Unrealistic Beauty Standard Lead to Lower Self-Esteem.
The reason why I choose this global issue is that numerous people cannot feel their
own abilities and beauty. It is true that the beauty standard that all people are convinced
of in a society gives people a narrow perspective and compares themselves to others.
For doing this IO, I will elaborate on two of the works that depict the unrealistic beauty
standard that leads to low self-esteem.

The first is a literary work composed by Anne Marie, the Beautiful Song. In 2021, she
released this song with many emotions shared with the audience. For the second work,
I chose The Tall Girl Movie directed by Nzingha Stewart. She produced this movie in
2019. In this extract, I will be looking for the specific scene where Jodi, the main
character in that movie, was feeling so bad about herself being tall. At first, she is
confident about the difference she has, however, after passing many dramatical things,
she is down about herself. In this oral, I’ll be exploring the question “In what way do an
unrealistic beauty standard and community opinion lead to low self-esteem?”.

I will start with the first literary work first which is a song lyric by Anne Marie titled
Beautiful. Wrote by Anne Marie, Beautiful is the depiction of how she expresses her
feelings. In this song, Anne Marie wanted to give a message to the audience, telling
them that they are beautiful no matter the conditions. Anne Marie stated that she felt the
same way as how the audience received the message. Beautiful is all about not feeling
great but accepting it. The lyrics tell us about a process of self-acceptance, where an
individual felt insecurities at the beginning, and accepted her condition after all that
happened to her. She finally realizes her beauty in every body of human beings.

The first line in the song is I woke up, look in the mirror today, yeah Got so many things
that I wanna change, and Everybody's got something to say. The words I woke up tell
the audience that Anne has just awakened from her sleep, and started to look in the
mirror which brought the audience's imagination related her activity in her daily. Got so
many things that I wanna change, this phrase delineates how she started to feel as if
she was frustrated with herself or even ashamed of some parts of her own. The
unsatisfied feelings slowly eat her mind, crawling all over her body. The I wanna change
phrases described Anne Marie’s intention to improve herself.

Everybody's got something to say, But that's just who we are. The second line is
describing judgment, criticism, hatred, and opinion towards Anne Marie. The line
suggests that people's tendency to have something to say about others is a natural part
of human nature. It acknowledges that we all have different perspectives and
viewpoints, which often leads to diverse opinions being expressed. Essentially, it
highlights the fact that people have a tendency to voice their thoughts or judgments
about others, whether positive or negative.

Move to the next line, I found myself looking again. Wondering why my body doesn't
look like them. Know it might sound weird but I refuse to pretend. And then you
probably think the same every now and again. I got more than all these scars. I got
flaws and broken hearts. I don't like this stranger staring at me, yeah. The process
throughout the song was
