Intro to Masking

in Lightroom
What are Lightroom
masking tools?
Masking tools allow you to apply adjustments to
specific areas of a photo instead of the entire image.
For example, if you want to decrease the saturation of
your subject while keeping the background
unchanged, you can use a mask to isolate the subject
and adjust the saturation selectively.

Desktop:

To access the masking tool, open your photo and

select ‘Masking’ from the right panel. The masking
icon is represented by a blue circle with a dotted
outline or can be accessed using the shortcut (Shift +
W).

Mobile:

To access the masking tool, open your photo and

select ‘Masking’ from the bottom panel. The
masking icon is represented by a blue circle with a
dotted outline.
