Important Mountain Ranges and Peaks of Pakistan

Pakistan is home to many mountains above 7,000 meters (22,970 ft). Five of the world's
fourteen mountains taller than 8,000 meters (26,000 ft) (Eight-Thousanders) are in Pakistan,
four of which are near Concordia in Baltoro Glacier.
Most of Pakistan's high peaks are located in the Karakoram Range, the highest of which
is K2 8611 meter long (Godwin Austen Peak) (28,251 ft), the second-highest peak on earth.
The highest peak of Himalayan range in Pakistan is Nanga Parbat (8,126 meters (26,660 ft),
which is the ninth-highest peak of the world.
Following are the mountain ranges that are fully or partially included in Pakistan:
 Karakoram Range, including the world's second-highest peak, K2 (8,611 m or 28,251 ft)
 Himalayan Range; highest peak in Pakistan is Nanga Parbat (8,126 meters (26,660 ft)
 Koh Hindu Kush Range; highest peak is Tirich Mir (7,690 meters (25,230 ft).
 Muslim Raj in northern Pakistan, part of the eastern Hindu Kush, highest peak is Koyo
Zom (6,872 m (22,546 ft).
 Spīn Ghar Range, starting from Tora Bora on the border with eastern Afghanistan west of
the Khyber Pass, highest peak is Mount Sikaram (4,755 m (15,600).
 Koh Sulaiman Range; highest peak is Takht-e-Sulaiman (3,487 meters (11,440 ft).
 Margalla Hills in Punjab whose highest peak is Tilla Charouni (1,604 meters (5,262 ft)
 Salt Range, a hill system in the Punjab Province that is abundant in salt; highest peak
is Sakaser (1,522 meters (4,993 ft)
 Toba Kakar Range, a southern offshoot of the Hindu Kush Range in Balochistan
 Makran Range, a semi-desert coastal strip in the south of Balochistan, in Iran and
Pakistan near the coast of the Arabian Sea. The narrow coastal plain rises very rapidly into
several mountain ranges. Of its 1,000-kilometre (620 mi) extent, about 750 kilometers
(470 mi) is in Pakistan
 Ras Koh Range in Balochistan
 Chagai Range in Balochistan
 Kirthar Range, located along the Balochistan and Sindh provincial border. It runs north-
south for about 300 kilometers (186 mi) from the Mula River in east-central Balochistan
south to Cape Muari (Cape Monze) west of Karachi on the Arabian Sea.
 The Hill Station of Sindh at Gorakh, in Kirthar Mountains Range, off Dadu, at the
height of (1,734 m) (5,688 feet), averaging (1,700 m) (5,500 feet) is one of the two large
plateaus in the Sindh segment of Kirthar Mountains.
 The Kirana Hills is a small and extensive rocky mountain range located near Sargodha,
Pakistan.

Important Peaks in Pakistan

Pakistan is home to 108 peaks above 7,000 meters and 4555 above 6,000 m. There is no count
of the peaks above 5,000 and 4,000 m. Five of the 14 highest independent peaks in the world
(the Eight-Thousanders) are in Pakistan Four of which lie in the surroundings of Concordia;
the confluence of Baltoro Glacier and Godwin Austen Glacier). Most of the highest peaks in
Pakistan lie in the Karakoram mountain range (which lies almost entirely in the Gilgit–
Baltistan region of Pakistan, and is considered to be a part of the greater Himalayan range) but
some peaks above 7,000 m are included in the Himalayan and Hindu Kush ranges. Moreover,
Pakistan is home to over 7,000 glaciers, more than anywhere except the Polar Regions.
Most of the highest mountains in Pakistan are located in the Karakoram range (the highest of
which is K2, globally ranked 2nd, 8611m), some high mountains are in Himalaya (the highest of
which is Nanga Parbat, globally ranked 9th, 8126 m) and Hindu Kush (the highest of which
is Tirich Mir, globally ranked 33rd, 7708 m).
For clarity, lower peaks with labels overlapping higher peaks are left out of the main image.
Most of the high peaks in Pakistan lie specifically in Gilgit–Baltistan with the exception of a few
7,000+ m peaks in the high Hindu Kush (the peaks marked in the northwest most region of
Pakistan). The peak marked as number 9 is Nanga Parbat (8,125 m), which is the 2nd highest
Himalayan Peak in Pakistan. All other peaks above 8,000m are in the Baltoro
Muztagh subrange of Karakoram.
The locations of the highest mountains are shown on the composite satellite image
of Karakoram and Hindu Kush below. The numbers refer to the global ranking in this list of
highest mountains.
