Hope you will enjoy your TCWD Midterms Examination.

May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You!

“We have lost the wonder of walking together, we have lost the delight of
dreaming together, so that this wealth, moved by hope, can take us
forward; we need to walk together, we need to meet, and we need to
dream. Do not lose the fascinating power of dreaming! Have the courage to
dream!” - Pope Francis

PART III. SAMPLE QUESTIONS FOR TRAINING

Take note: There is no part like this in your exam paper. This is just to contextualize the
sample questions.

Scholar 1: Robert Solow

Argument: economic growth is the result of three factors—labor, capital, and technology.

Scholar 2: Gunnar Myrdal

Argument: free play of market forces and operation of profit motive in the capitalist system
normally tends to increase inequalities between regions rather than decrease

Scholar 3: Akamatsu Kaname

Argument: pioneered flying geese model: a leading nation is compared to a lead goose,
followed by a flock of developing-nation geese.

SAMPLE QUESTION TYPES AND FLOW OF THE EXAM (FONT SIZE - 10, STYLE - ARIAL).

Topic: Development (This is an indicator in your exam paper that you are now answering questions for
this topic).

FOR QUESTIONS 1-6 (This is an indicator in your exam paper for the scope of the instructions below).
INSTRUCTIONS: Shade the letter of the scholar that will match the following case/statement.
Choices for Question 1-6 (This is an indicator in your exam paper for the scope of the choices).

A. B. C.

Robert Solow Gunnar Myrdal Akamatsu Kaname

1. Capitalist system normally tends to increase inequalities

2. Economic growth is the result of three factors
3. Leading nation is compared to a goose
4. State J is following State B
5. State O increases its capital productivity
6. State Z is ensuring he is on the lead resulting in inequality.

—-- end —---- (This is an indicator in your exam paper that you are done answering 120 Qs).

Answers and Explanations (There is no part like this in your exam paper. This is just to explain the
answers to the sample questions).

1. Myrdal is the one that argued that the Capitalist system normally tends to increase inequalities.
Then the answer is B.
2. Solow was the one who argued Economic growth is the result of three factors. Then the answer is
A.
3. Akamatsu was the one who developed the flying geese model. Then the Answer is C.
4. Analyzing the case, there’s a lead and there’s a follower. Hence, the case matches Akamatsu’s
argument. (Ans: C)
5. Analyzing the case, capital productivity was increased. Therefore, despite it being lacking in
terms of “why they increased productivity” we can already assume that this is for economic
growth purposes. Hence, it can be explained by Solow and his Growth Accounting model. (Ans:
A)
6. Analyzing the case, despite the word “lead” being mentioned, you need to see the impact or
result. According to the case, it leads to inequality that contradicts the flying geese model.
Therefore, Myrdal’s argument matches the case. (Ans: B)

Tip: The best way to study is to make sure you know and you are very familiar with the
scholars/theories/paradigms and their arguments, as this will go hand in hand with the application cases.
If you may notice in the given sample questions, the flow was first, the arguments of the scholar, then
after are the cases for application. The reviewer given to you will be very helpful to understand each
scholar’s argument.
