Foreword
I am delighted to present the P@SHA IT Skills Requirement Analysis Report for the year 2022-23. This report
signifies a significant milestone in our ongoing mission to establish Pakistan as a prominent global center
for technology and innovation. The IT industry in Pakistan has displayed remarkable growth, surpassing
traditional sectors. While this growth has unveiled unprecedented opportunities for research and
innovation, it has also presented a unique challenge – a shortage of skilled professionals to meet the
industry's demands. This report, a collaborative effort involving numerous IT and ITeS companies, sheds light
on the current state of our industry's skill requirements. I extend my sincere gratitude to these companies
for their invaluable contributions. Our industry is gearing up to hire a substantial number of professionals in
the near future, while our universities produce a limited number of skilled graduates annually. This
underscores the essential role of tailored skill development programs in bridging this gap. The P@SHA IT Skills
Requirement Analysis Report for 2022-23 provides valuable insights into the specific technologies and tools
highly sought after by our industry. Armed with this knowledge, we can strategically design skill development
programs to ensure that our graduates are well-prepared to excel in the IT and ITeS sector. I want to
express my deep appreciation to the P@SHA Skills and Policy team for their unwavering commitment in
bringing this report to fruition. It is our hope that this report will act as a catalyst for transformative change,
aligning our educational institutions with industry needs and propelling Pakistan further towards its rightful
place as a global technology leader.
Ali Ihsan
SVC and Skills Chair, P@SHA
The P@SHA IT Skills Requirement Analysis Report focuses on the current landscape of Talent Demand
in the IT & ITeS Industry across Pakistan. The IT Skills Requirement Report 2023 is based upon a survey
conducted by P@SHA to find the most in-demand technology tracks and tools required by the
industry. The report covers in-demand technology tracks, prospective in-demand technology tracks
and the need of skilled resources. In an attempt to forecast new opportunities for employment and
bridge the skills gap of Pakistan’s workforce, the IT Skills Requirement Report 2023 covers ‘an exclusive
demand and need analysis’ of IT Industry in Pakistan.
Extensive Survey
An extensive survey was designed and administered to collect quantitative data on the existing skill levels, anticipated skill
requirements, and projections for the foreseeable future. The survey targeted IT professionals, HR departments, and relevant
stakeholders across the IT industry. A total of 144 clean responses were recorded from different companies across the IT & ITeS
industry comprising of 34,437 employees. The responses obtained provided a comprehensive dataset for analysis.
Data Extrapolation
To assess and analyze future trends and scenarios, data extrapolation techniques were employed. By extrapolating the
collected data, including insights from the survey, potential trajectories and patterns were identified. This process enabled the
projection of future demands for skilled IT professionals and the identification of potential gaps between supply and demand.
The survey sample has been bifurcated into small, medium and large companies as per employee size. Number of resources
in each category are divided into the total number of companies – small, medium and large respectively – and then multiplied
by the number of P@SHA membership companies (small, medium and large). Whatever the percentage of small, medium and
large companies in the survey sample, it has been generalized for the P@SHA membership.
The methodology ensures a comprehensive understanding of current skill levels, future demands, and potential gaps, leading
to valuable insights for policymakers, industry leaders, and training providers to make informed decisions and shape strategies
