possible to significantly reduce the number of road accidents by implementing an effective and
coordinated safety policy and actions which require significant improvements in the relevant sectors
viz. Improvement of the traffic accident data collection system in Dhaka is necessary. It is really
alarming situation in Bangladesh for increasing the number of fatalities with the equal number of
accidents. This study aims to analyze the current legal framework in Bangladesh with regards to road
safety and identify potential areas for improvement. The road safety situation in Bangladesh has
been deteriorating with increasing number of road accident deaths, largely as direct consequences of
rapid growth in population, motorization, urbanization, and lack of investment in road safety. And in
Public Opinion Survey, a questionnaire has been made for taking Public Opinion about the existing
conditions of Road facilities and transportation Services of the Study Area. A rigorous accident
analysis is carried out in the present study with available data and compiled statistics from different
police stations. Under the instruction and guidance of our honorable course instructor Mrs. Jesmin
Sultana, we have taken the initiative to prepare this report with much precision and by being
completely unbiased. They tend to be works, which repackage, reorganize, reinterpret, summarize,
index or otherwise “add value” to the new information, reported in the primary literature. Though
roads are a vital part of any country’s growth and development but with more traffic, more and more
traffic crash related injuries and fatalities are eminent. The audit was performed on the road segment
and more than 100 issues regarding safety for road users were identified and all issues were
addressed with possible recommendations and suggestions. To identify the underlying causes behind
this Road Accident. Some of the key problem characteristics and factors are summarized in this
section. Data mining (DM) techniques (artificial neural networks (ANNs) and support vector
machines (SVM)) were used to model accident and incident data compiled from the historical data.
Modern and scientific traffic system should be introduced in cities and towns. The ecological factors
are classified into human and. Check: The “check” step includes formal and informal assessments
taking place continually. In 2019, at least 5227 people were killed and 6953 injured in 4702 road
accidents across the country 4, with accompanying increased healthcare costs for Bangladesh. It is
observed that, 51 accidents occur in this time span. At least 60 people were killed and 52 were
injured and 41 others were reported missing in 41 accidents on the waterways. Developing countries
loss the most economically active and productive years from road accident victim, heavily titled
towards 5-44 years age groups. We have discussed with our honorable course instructor. After recent
expansion of city limits, at present Surat city covers 333.95 Sq Km of area. Surat has a widespread
road network of around 1200 Km length. These four accidents types accounted for 96% of the total.
Age Distribution of Overall Drivers’ Involvement: Drivers in 26-35 years of age constitute the most
dominant group involved in accidents as revealed in the analyses of 8,500 drivers. Overall, Hong
Kong, China had the highest share of pedestrian deaths (two third of all fatal accidents) followed by
Dhaka, Bangladesh (63%), Pakistan (50%), Republic of Korea (48%), Fiji (43%) and Papua-New
Guinea (33%). The principle for achieving a safer road essentially seeks to apply various measures by
focusing on five broad strategies. Improvement of the traffic accident data collection system in
Dhaka is necessary. To browse Academia.edu and the wider internet faster and more securely, please

system in Dhaka is necessary. Trucks and buses are over involved in a majority of fatal accidents and
they are the most common vehicles to strike pedestrians. Accident rates in developing countries are
often 10 to 70 times higher than in developed countries. On an average each year around 1300
accident cases are recorded on these roads, with 10% share of fatality cases. A total of 15 such
locations are identified and considered to be hazardous. Roads of Surat city were audited for various
stages to check the safety for users on such roads. It is estimated that the actual fatalities could well
be 10000-12000 each year. Study indicates that in 32 percent cases rickshaws have collided with bus
and in 25 percent cases heavy trucks hit rickshaws. To provide as much information as possible for
the development of research related to Road Accident. It has been found that six intersections and
four mid-blocks are the most hazardous, where the rate of accident frequency is high. Indeed road
safety engineering strategies demand priority consideration as the road environment components
remains a major consideration in the overall road safety management strategies. The mechanism in
particular explains starting from the purpose to conduct a Road safety audit, declaration of the same
to the design team, appointing an audit team, qualification of audit team personnel, audit brief, draft
audit report, final audit report, responses and meetings, acceptance reporting by design team,
arbitration etc. It should be realized that the road accidents result from failures in the interaction of
humans, vehicles and road environment- the elements that producing the road traffic system. In this
paper, an investigation has been done to evaluate the rate of road traffic accidents and fatalities
trends in terms of total number of accidents per year, and total number of registered vehicles per year
using police reported accident data. Despite various initiatives taken by the government, the number
of road accidents continues to increase, highlighting the need for a legal approach to address this
issue. Incorporation of safety features in the design and construction of new road schemes. An
integrated, multidisciplinary approach is required to reduce road accidents and the consequent
injuries and economic losses. We have also gathered information from the survey on users of roads in
different areas and also from Traffic Controllers and Officials in Road Department of the
Government. In fact, urban roads are more prone to accidents as the traffic characteristic is
heterogeneous whereas on highways, a homogeneous traffic is observed. Protifolon Issue 1: Impact
of global financial crisis on the economy of Bangl. Road safety audit thus becomes not only desirable
but also critical. A total number of 2,720 accidents occurred within 2007-2011. Sharif Hossen, AJTL,

solution. If all these steps can be taken properly, it will help to minimize accidents. Road trauma has
now been recognized as one of the significant diseases of industrial societies and is an increasing
public health economic issue in developing countries. With the growth of motorization, urbanization
and number of road users, the number of accidents and fatalities on road are increasing with the
passage of time. Developing countries are experiencing a very high growth rate of vehicles, which is
doubling the vehicle fleet in some countries in even five years. There are over 1,460 drivers of age
below 25, which is nearly 17.2% of total drivers’ involvement. In this stage, we have completed
some of our activities, such as, cause analysis and we have also developed questionnaire for survey.
This study aims to expose better way out from this dilemma. It is really alarming situation in
Bangladesh for increasing the number of fatalities with the equal number of accidents. Growth of
Vehicles and Road Network Being a reverine country, road transport plays an important role in
Bangladesh. Driving accidents are among the most important health issues that threaten human
health. Understanding and systematic application of proven and effective engineering counter-
measures accompanied by proper evaluation studies of their effects. In this paper, an investigation
has been done to evaluate the rate of road traffic accidents and fatalities trends in terms of total
number of accidents per year, and total number of registered vehicles per year using police reported
accident data. Proper and rational rates of accidents and corresponding trends are required to
understand or judge the situation accordingly. With 80,000 fatalities per annum (in the year, 2001)
India has 10% of total world’s road fatalities; and the road safety situation in the country continues
to worsen. The Annual Fatality Rate In Road Accident In Bangladesh Is 85.6 Per 10,000 Vehicles.
The audit was performed on the road segment and more than 100 issues regarding safety for road
users were identified and all issues were addressed with possible recommendations and suggestions.
This group of vehicles is particularly over involved in pedestrian accidents accounting for about 79
percent (trucks 37%, buses 20% and minibuses 22%). NMVs should given proper level of
accessibility based on its share and need for future years. Apart from the loss of life, these accidents
cost the society billions of rupees every year by way of hospital care, property damage, court cases,

formulated in 1997. Detailed study on under-reporting of traffic accident is also recommended.
Recent iRAP (International Road Assessment Programme) assessment of 1400 km of highways in
Bangladesh indicated the severity of road safety hazards for motorcyclists as the assessment
revealed that 71% of assessed highways are 2-star or less (out of possible 5-star) indicating a
relatively high level of risk of deaths and injuries. The Deming Cycle or PDCA Cycle is a continuous
quality improvement model consisting out of a logical sequence of four repetitive steps for
continuous improvement and learning. Following the economic and population growth in Khulna,
traffic congestion problem growing faster. The objectives of the study is to examine the effect of
district wise road infrastructure, socioeconomic and demographic features on crash occurrence. The
unit of analysis will be taken as individual district which has not been explored much in the past. It
was very difficult for us to survey in different place because sometimes people are not interested in
this type of survey. Different aspects of traffic operational and behavioural characteristics are also
discussed using onsite observational survey and video analysis. It both emphasized and demonstrated
that improvement programs must start with careful planning, must result in effective action, and
must move on again to careful planning in a continuous cycle. The statistical data of road accident of
Rajshahi city is presented in this paper. Under the instruction and guidance of our honorable course
instructor Mrs. Jesmin Sultana, we have taken the initiative to prepare this report with much
precision and by being completely unbiased. Improved conspicuity of vehicles in general, bicyclists
and pedestrians in particular. Treatments of roadway shoulders (provide wider and stronger

using travel time approach. The highway corridor passes through Gazipur and Tangail district.
Accident, But A System Made For Murdering Innocent People. Vulnerable road users are much
more susceptible to accidents when vehicle speeds are high and can even suffer fatal injuries in
accidents with motor vehicles at moderate speeds. Predominant crash types are head-on, hit-
pedestrian and rear-end, which together account for around 83%. Deciding roles of individuals and
proceeding QC Circle activity Making detail plan and direct the whole circle activities. Accidents
and road safety related issues are pervasive in Bangladesh due to its vulnerable, heterogeneous and
complex transport system along with notable speed differences between motorized vehicles and non
motorized vehicles. The heterogeneity of traffic exceeding the capacity, plying of modes with
varying speed and maneuvering time make the road links as well as intersections of Dhaka even
more complex. A total number of two thousand seven hundred twenty (2720) accidents that were
recorded by police during the period of year 2007-2011 were analyzed. Plan: In this stage, we have
Planned to improve our operations first by finding out what things were going wrong (that is identify
the problems faced), and came up with ideas for solving these problems. In this stage we have
formed our QC circle. Driving accidents are among the most important health issues that threaten
human health. The rate of accident, fatality, injury and causality is increasing in the year from 2014
to 2016 under the calculation of excluding motor cycles compared to including motor cycles. The
study found that about (34.8%) of accidents took place by head-on collisions and (27.6%) of those
by back-on collisions. Despite phenomenal growth in the number of motor vehicles the country’s
transport demand is still predominantly met by non-motorized modes particularly rickshaws and it’s
level of motorization is far below the levels in other Asian countries. Therefore, the study
recommended more vigilance and sincere steps from the concerned authority to ensure the proper
implementation of the laws and road traffic management. Installation of delineation devices (lane
markings, guide posts, chevrons) to facilitate and guide traffic movements. These streets are not
straight as there are frequent turnings at short distances. Management is giving emphasis on quality
program practice as it is a proven technique to guarantee survival in world-class competition. Detailed
study on under-reporting of traffic accident is also recommended.
The Chi-square test and logistic regression model were utilized in this study to analyze the data.
Some of the key problem characteristics and factors are summarized in this section. Study indicates
that in 32 percent cases rickshaws have collided with bus and in 25 percent cases heavy trucks hit
rickshaws. The main reasons are the reckless driving, over-taking of one vehicle by another, driving
by unskilled drivers. The main purpose of this report is to exchange and relate theoretical knowledge
with real life situation. Some common causes of road accidents are very clear to us, first, our roads
and streets are very narrow and vehicles move from two opposite directions. In this paper, it is trying
to show in detail the magnitude and impact of road traffic injuries using evidence at global and
national levels with particular importance of regional variance. Flow charts provide an excellent form
of documentation for a process, and quite often are useful when examining how various steps in a
process work together. Although this growth has been effecting in ever sphere of life, it is now-a-
days greatly disturbing transportation system and operation of the city. The state recorded police
reports or FIR’s are the documents which contains the information about the accidents. This road
shares 0.21% of total road length where as just in half year of operation, share to the total annual

road accidents in Bangladesh would surely reflect the considerable loss of addition to GDP. In recent
years (1996-98) the number of pedestrian casualties (fatalities and injuries) has increased markedly

in the year 2014. It allowed us to see immediately what should have been achieved at a point in time
and how remedial action may bring the work back on course. Thus the most critical and effective
measure which should be immediately adopted in every country is to reduce speeds particularly in
urban areas. So casualties related to NMV accident are also high (nearly 50 percent of the victims
died). Furthermore, road traffic deaths are predicted to increase by 83 percent in low income and
middle income countries and to decrease by 27 percent in high income countries. This has led to
widespread flouting of traffic regulations and a high incidence of road accidents. The number of
registered motor vehicles on road increased steadily by 85 percent over the last decade from 3,39,448
in 1990 to 6,29,488 in 2000. Results from this cycle become input for the “analyze” phase of the
next cycle. Secondly, there are poorly serviced vehicles plying on the roads. So the trends of rapid
growth of vehicle population are appeared to be the major issue in the road accident scenario of
Bangladesh. Engineering Road Safety: Road Environmental Improvements In view of the existing
problem characteristics and in the absence of any systematic approach taken, there is specific need
and scope for road environmental improvements aimed at correcting the most common deficiencies
in Bangladesh. The ideal size of a quality circle is from eight to ten members. The combination of
these various elements to produce road accident means that the road safety itself has to be tackled in
a multi-functional manner.

benefits by helping in the identification of possible hazards and in turn assist in evolving appropriate
corrective and cautionary measures to minimize the hazards. Methods: Primary data were collected
from 200 respondents in Khulna Medical College Hospital and Satkhira Sadar Hospital and several
private clinics, generated by interviewing people who had experienced a traffic accident in Khulna
division, Bangladesh. Road safety audit was then carrying out by selecting Udhna-Magdalla road
which is under upgradation scheme and conceptual design stage is accomplished. It has been found
