    1) Giraffes did not always have long necks. This story explains how they evolved to have long necks. 2) A giraffe gets a stomach ache and sticks its head in a tree to eat honey, getting stuck. 3) Other animals like a lion, monkey, elephant, and baby antelope try to pull the giraffe out of the tree but cannot. 4) They finally succeed in freeing the giraffe, and notice that it now has a long neck from the effort. This allows giraffes to reach leaves at the top of trees to eat.

    THE NARRATOR
    A long, long time ago giraffes did not have long necks. This is the story
    about how giraffes got long necks.

    (Giraffe is walking around holding hER stomach and looking sad.)

    LION
    Giraffe! What’s the matter?

    GIRAFFE
    I’ve got tummy ache.

    MONKEY
    Eat some honey.

    (Giraffe sticks hER head in a tree stage right.)

    GIRAFFE
    Mmm… this honey is delicious!
    Yummy yummy in my tummy.
    Oh no! I’m stuck.
    Help! Help!

    (The lion and the monkey try to pull giraffe out of the tree.)

    One and two and three and pull!

    (The lion and the monkey cannot pull giraffe out of the tree.)

    Enter the elephant.

    MONKEY
    Elephant! Can you help us, please?

    ELEPHANT
    Of course!

    LION
    One and two and three and pull!

    (The lion, the monkey and the elephant cannot pull giraffe out of the tree.)

    Enter the Baby Antelope.


    ELEPHANT
    Baby Antelope! Can you help us, please?

    BABY ANTELOPE
    Of course!

    LION
    One and two and three and pull!

    (The animals manage to free the giraffe from the tree.)

    GIRAFFE
    Thank you, animals.

    ALL THE OTHER ANIMALS


    You’re welcome.

    BABY ANTELOPE
    Look! Giraffe has got a very long neck!

    MONKEY
    Giraffe, how do you feel?

    GIRAFFE
    I feel good nah-na nah-na nah.

    (Giraffe goes to the tree and starts eating leaves at the top of it)

    GIRAFFE
    Look everyone! Now I can eat the leaves at the top of the trees.

    ALL THE OTHER ANIMALS


    Wow. That’s awesome.

    NARRATOR
    And everyone lived happily ever after.
