Role Overview

The ESSG ensure that Amos Dairies Ltd complies with the Environment and Social
Commitment Plan (ESCP) with total coverage of the Environment and social governance
program, implementing internationally recognized Environmental, Social Governance and
Occupational Health and Safety systems; Assuring legal compliance and meeting all
customer needs with respect to health, safety and the environment. The ESSG manager is
responsible for defining objectives and procedures in line with company policy; designing
and implementing environmental, health and safety and social governance programs in line
with internationally recognized standards; attaining and maintaining certification to such
standards in line with the company’s strategic goals. The ESSG manager is responsible for
planning and budgeting for the function; monitoring and reviewing performance against set
goals.

About the position


• Reports to: Quality Executive
• Team: Health & Safety team
• Location: Kiruhura, Uganda
• Expected Start date: 01st May, 2024

Key responsibilities include;


1. Leading the Environment, occupational health & safety (OCSHA) and social governance
function of the company
2. Defining objectives and strategies for the environmental and OCSHA programs in line with
the company’s strategic goals and to eliminate/ minimise risks.
3. Designing and implementing environmental, OCSHA and social governance programs to
create a safe working environment and to comply to all legal and customer
requirements.
4. Training the environment, health and safety team.
5. Conducting inspections and assessments of facilities, properties, and public areas to
identify environmental health hazards, such as air and water pollution, hazardous waste,
pests, food safety violations, and unsanitary conditions.

6. Conduct investigations and respond to complaints related to environmental health


concerns, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.

7. Provide educational outreach and training to the public, businesses, and organizations on
environmental health issues, promoting awareness and best practices.

8. Collect and analyze samples, data, and evidence to assess environmental health hazards,
determine sources of contamination, and evaluate the effectiveness of control measures.

9. Conduct risk assessments and provide guidance on emergency preparedness and


response measures related to environmental health emergencies, such as outbreaks,
natural disasters, or chemical spills.

Academic Qualification
➢ Bachelors’ degree in Environmental Health & Safety Management, Occupational
Health & Safety, Environmental engineering or equivalent.
➢ Registration with NEMA as environmental practitioner or an equivalent body
will be an added advantage
➢ Certified auditor to an internationally recognised standard for environment
or occupational health and safety

Core Competence
➢ Min 3 years relevant work experience in a similar role in an environmentally
sensitive setting.
➢ Experience and skills in undertaking environmental assessments, developing, or
implementing an ESMS for an institution, developing plans and supporting action
plan implementation will be an added advantage
➢ Familiarity with relevant scientific principles, methodologies, and data analysis
techniques.

➢ Knowledge of implementation of a QMS, EMS and ESG

➢ Data analysis and report writting
