Impact of Work-Study Balance on Mental health

Investigate how managing work and study commitments affects the mental health of students in senior
high school in pagalanggang national high school

Background:

This study looks at how students come up with strategies to work and study as much as possible.
Investigating and identifying students’ experiences while working is another goal of the aforementioned
study. They are beginning with how challenging their circumstance is. The issues they run into follow.
Then, how they handle and get through such challenges. This study aims to explore the perspectives of
students who work concurrently with their studies.

Working while in school is mostly motivated by financial necessity: to supplement income to provide a
better knowledge of the subject matter, to offset losses in various forms of understudy support, or to
assist in achieving future goals. It also gives students a sense of financial independence, develops their
ability to manage accounts, and gives them the ability to share responsibility for covering their own
study costs. In order to gain a deeper understanding of the reasons people work, the kind of jobs they
do, and the benefits and drawbacks of working while pursuing higher education (HE), this new research
builds on findings from the SIES (Williams, 2014). According to an Endsleigh (2015) study, seventy-seven
percent of understudies are currently working part-time to.
Conceptual framework:

Work-study balance is crucial for students’ mental health, balancing academic commitments with
employment responsibilities. Factors such as demographics, personality traits, time management skills,
and environmental factors contribute to this balance. Imbalance can lead to stress, cognitive load, and
social isolation. Mediating variables include perceived stress, self-efficacy, and sleep quality. Moderating
variables include social support, resilience, and work-study integration programs. A balanced schedule
can improve psychological well-being, reduce stress, and enhance academic performance. Conversely,
imbalanced work-study arrangements can lead to increased stress, decreased engagement, and mental
health problems. This framework emphasizes the importance of individual, environmental, and support
system factors in shaping student well-being.
Research hypothesis : Working while studying is having part-time jobs while studying to have extra
income. It has a big impact on the academic performance of students. This condition has a possible
positive and negative effect. The researchers gathered information about this particular topic to help
working students deal with this situation. This study focuses on the effects of working while studying in
senior high school.

Scope and limitations of the study: This study aims to Investigate how Managing Work and Study
Commitments affects the Mental Health of Students in Senior High School in National High School. This
research will solely be focused on Senior High School Students. This study is investing the impact of
work-study balance on mental health and will present some related studies that can help to improve this
research. The respondents are Senior High School Students (HUMSS, ABM, STEM, and AGRI)
