METHOD STATEMENT FOR INSTALATION OF PRECAST CONCRETE

RING USING SINGKING METHOD

Precast concrete ring is to be used as temporary jacking pit/shaft for entrance for repair work on
the monsoon drain and also to protect the soil/earth falling during working time. The excavations
consist of Excavator or Backhoe to be excavating about 6-meter depth to the ground. This system
provides full excavation exposing the soil and can be used to construct circular shaft.

INTRODUCTION

This method statement applicable for entering into the underground existing pipe line for varies
pipe size. Open excavation method and sinking method. Once the excavation is complete the
precast ring will be placed in the excavated hole to the correct level The Excavator or backhoe will
excavate inside the ring. The rings then will slowly be sinking down. Once the 1 st precast ring is to
the correct level the 2nd ring will be placed on top of the 1 st precast ring. This process will be
continuing until reach the required level.

5. Ventilation and lighting

CONTROL

The works will be carried out by experienced operatives who will be supervised during the whole
of the works. Only experienced- trained operatives will operate the plant and equipment. All
personnel within the work area will wear the appropriate PPE. Only authorised-trained operatives
will be permitted to drive any plant vehicles and mount abrasive wheels on company machines.
All excavations will be fenced off if unattended at any time.

GENERAL

It is our intention to promote a safe working environment and to this end, we would insist on full
co-operation from all contractors and the general public. The works will be carried out by
experienced operatives who will be supervised during the whole of the works. All operatives will
be issued with personal protection equipment. All operatives will be expected to wear any, and all
personal protection equipment provided. Operatives failing to wear the equipment or take care
of themselves or others will be reported to the office and disciplinary action will be taken. Only
experienced – trained operatives will operate the plant and equipment. Only authorised-trained
operatives will be permitted to drive any plant vehicles and mount abrasive wheels on company
machines. No excavation to commence until setting out has been done and all services have been
located. All excavation will be fenced off at all times. Ladders used only for access and egress.
Only trained operatives are to enter a confined space.

METHOD STATEMENT

A) Pre-assessment and Setting Out

Prior to work commencing, a pre-assessment of the ground conditions will be carried out,
this will involve taking cognizance of the immediate environment, any other works being
carried out in the area adjacent, the likelihood of water ingress etc. The edge line for
trench excavation to be set out and the line will show the alignment of the excavation
area and ROW (Right of Way) for the works.

B) Excavation/Construction Works

The works will be executed by means of hydraulic excavators or backhoe. It depends on

the ground and soil condition or accessibility. The edge of trench width will be saw-cut
with diamond cutter if the existing surface covered by premix pavement.

1) The ground level will be cut approximately 3200mm diameters with the cutter and
excavate 4-meters deep. The 3000mm precast ring will be lowered into the hole.
The I-Beam to be place across the precast ring where the excavation to be used to
press down the precast ring down (In case in will not sink down by itself). The I
beam is removed.

2) 2 workers will continue manually excavate at the bottom ground inside the
precast ring trench and secured the position.

3) The 2nd precast ring now to be place on the 1 st precast ring. This ring will be sinking
itself due to gravitational force. In case it doesn’t goes, the I beam to be place
across the ring and press down by excavator to get to the correct level.

4) The step (2) and (3) will continue until the ring reach the correct required level.

5) When the precast ring 3000mm reaches the required level, the excavation process
will be stop. At this point the ventilation must well-functioning.

6) Backfill the gap between outside precast concrete and the ground by excessive
soil excavate earlier.

C) Jacking Shaft

The precast concrete ring is now as a temporary jacking shaft. Now the workers can enter
and start preparation for jacking work. All excavations are to be isolated from
unauthorised personnel both during working hours and at night time by an appropriate
barrier system. Operative will work within the R.O.W at all times.
