Captain's Standing Orders

Watchkeeping

RESPONSIBILITY

 The duty watch is a serious responsibility and each person

is required to be responsible for the vessel. Regardless of
how many crew are on-board the yacht. Making
responsible decisions and taking care of the vessel.

 The watch-keeper must be sober and in a fit state to react

to an emergency. They must at all times be in a position
where they are able to hear alarms, telephones and watch
the CCTV camera for security. They must never have their
headphones on and be unable to hear.
After the watch keeper retires the watch keeping phone
should be kept with them and the ship security system
activated on it.

 In times of bad weather extra people may be asked to stay

on-board to help look after the vessel. Especially in the
winter months during storms. The watch keeper should
have no hesitation to call in assistance if the situation on-
board is compromised.

 During the working week the vessel shall be completely

locked up at the end of the working day. The doors are to
be kept locked at all times when there are no crew
working on deck. The watch keeper shall make a check of
all exterior doors at 1700. The ships flag shall be raised at
0800 in the morning and lowered at sunset. During the
hours when the flag is down the deck lighting shall be
turned on. (Requıred deck lıghtıng wıll be marked on the
lıghtıng panel ın the brıdge).

on their watch day until 0800 the following day. They
should be awake and on deck at 0800 and in uniform until

completed.

telephone calls and taking accurate messages and
making sure they are delivered. On weekends they must
remain in a position where they can monitor the CCTV
camera.

 The watch-keeper must take responsibility for the table

setting for crew meals and the cleanliness of the crew
area and galley before retiring to bed. He is not
responsible for any mess made after 10.00pm.
 The Galley responsibility is the responsibility of the Chef.
His responsibilities are outlined in his standing orders. The
duty watch keeper is only responsible to make sure galley
is clean and tidy after evening meals.

 The watch keeper, during his duty day is expected to

clean and detail the bathroom and control shower in his
cabin bathroom sealants for mould and mildew. Clean
their own cupboards, and tidy up all of their belongings.

are each cleaned twice per week.
