Re: Issues Management Assessment and Issues That Can Affect the Family Tree’s External and

Internal Reputation.

I am pleased with the opportunity to work with Family Tree Agency and I believe my proposal

will provide the most compressive approach for Family Tree to execute the strategy successfully.

This initiative is very significant to the organization as it will be able to handle and reduce some

of the issues that it is likely to be facing. Family Tree was made with the aim of dealing with

domestic violence, homelessness and child abuse. If they will be able to handle some of the

issues discussed below, they will achieve their objectives that will be long-term.

My suggestion differs as per the issue that Family Tree is likely to be faced with. First in

lack of funds, the organization should always be to obtain cash, not seeking and holding grant-

funding agencies. The best way to get numerous donations is by simplifying everything.

Generate well-defined presentations to prevent relevant stakeholders from starting to have

doubts. If essential, spend on personnel training, which will increase opportunities. Fostering

positive relations and partnerships will also assist in the growth of that agency.

For no proper strategy planning, the organization can invest heavily in personal training

as workers and volunteers can utilize the learned information in the future development of an

organization under any circumstance. In lack of networking, utilizing technology may also assist

in the establishment of networks in your surroundings. The internet links us to other groups and

offers us data on activities we can join. In inadequate maintenance, the organization can always
3

prefer to do initiatives with long term effects and always to have an alternative if the original

plan does not work.

Political factors is another issue in which Family Tree can handle it by working with community

leaders to gain society's trust . Also, they should be transparent in their activities to avoid and

minimize challenges like terrorism and corruption that is likely to rise if not followed strictly.

Lastly, employees should always be prioritized and be promised a safe working environment.

For the technological factor, they can implement the introduction of a course to train its

employees to become familiarized with the local language of a specific community. This will

break down the language barrier. Also, they can designate some funds and invest in technical

skills required to complete an initiative and activities effectively because this will yield quick

results.

Please feel free to review my proposal and highlight any necessary changes.

I hope this will be of great benefit to the Family Tree Agency.

Sincerely,

Family Tree Agency

Family Tree is a non-profit organization that offers innovative, life-changing services to

end domestic violence, child abuse, and homelessness (FamilyTree, 2022). The agency has

provided its services for over 40 years to change the lives of families, individuals, and

safety across generations. The agency works with domestic violence, child abuse, and

changing programs and services (FamilyTree, 2022). The organization also empowers families

and individuals to realize their strengths to build a lasting positive change. Family Tree has a

Issue management is a strategic management process that assists organizations in

identifying and responding appropriately to issues in the internal and external environments.

Issue management entails prioritizing and actively addressing reputation issues and public policy

that can affect the organization's excellence. Most organizations use issue management
6

techniques to keep their internal and external relation activities focused on the opportunities and

challenges. Internal factors that affect an organization include employees, leadership,

organization structure, and communication, while external factors include social, economic,

political, and technological factors.

Issues That Could Affect Family Tree Agency

Lack funds

The family project does not only depend on the competition for its sole objectives.

Family Tree Agency would like to keep in contact with the customers after a program's

completion to guarantee that progress is being made. Aside from that, Family Tree Agency want

to be ready to assist additional communities and people based on their specific demands or

requirements. Family Tree Agency must continually raise cash to achieve that. Sometimes, they

might get comfortable and wait for past contributors to reach them. This will lead to the

organization failing. (AsianNGO, 2022). However, support agencies and sponsors will always

want to continue funding the organization's objectives; at times, they might see more

opportunities in other agencies and might choose to fund them instead. Inadequate funding

makes it challenging to finish programs and puts Family Tree Agency in jeopardy due to high

operating costs.

Year 2021 2020 2019

Assets 10,438,471 9,943,641 8,120,259

Liabilities 1,125,977 2,144,805 1,014,202

Incomes 6,052,333 7,798,836 7106,057

7

The above is an audit report for Family Tree since 2018. It is clear that the organization

experiences financial inconsistences (thefamilytree.org, 2022).

Solution: Even though an organization might have several funding partners, this should

not be used as a justification to get comfortable in one's hunt for new prospects. It is advisable to

be keen on new opportunities and funds, together with funding options for Family Tree Agency

and even modest funding. While searching for more financiers is likely to help an organization in

the long term, it will not be enough. The definitive objective should always be to obtain cash, not

seeking and holding grant-funding agencies. The best way to get numerous donations is by

simplifying everything. Generate well-defined presentations to prevent relevant stakeholders

from starting to have doubts. If essential, spend on personnel training, which will increase

opportunities. Fostering positive relations and partnerships will also assist in the growth of that

agency.

No proper planning of strategy

Many unique concepts might strike at any time, but they might also cause uncertainty and

lead you away from your initial goal (AsianNGO, 2022). Even though many outstanding

concepts are made, they are not always aligned with the goals.

Solution: Despite other agencies being competent and their employees being well acquainted

with their practices, personal training can always be helpful. Volunteers and staff will always

learn knowledge that they can utilize in the future development of an organization under any

circumstance.

Lack of networking
8

One viewpoint of many NGOs, Family Tree Agency being included, is that they

cooperate to attain their goals promptly. Some organizations see this as a form of competition

(AsianNGO, 2022). They believe that cooperating with other organizations will make them more

competitive when looking for funding for any reason.

Solutions: It is terrible to think of other non-profits as competition. If funding is

provided, it should always be considered as an opportunity to engage and teach them. Utilizing

technology may also assist in the establishment of networks in your surroundings. The internet

links us to other groups and offers us data on activities we can join.

Inadequate maintenance

Poor infrastructure is typical in several developing nations, and the Family tree Agency

might reason that individuals require a decent living; as a result, it may choose to solve this issue

by building big-scale societies that serve a vast population. Advancements are immediately

noticeable, and individuals enjoy an improved life quality (AsianNGO, 2022). It must be

recognized, however, that not every locality can maintain the same standards of living that they

anticipated. The improvements to their lifestyle levels may be short-lived if they are not correctly

upheld. Additionally, many initiatives that do not produce lengthy influence will affect the

Family Tree Agency's ability to raise cash. Grant-making organizations will prefer to provide to

those demonstrating their ability to develop and manage long-term projects.

Solution: Despite the enormous number of places in developing countries and the limited

funding resources available to NGOs, it is tempting to switch to a new project to help other areas

with similar requirements. Subsequently, it is prudent to ensure sufficient funding and personnel

are available to maintain and launch a new program. It is better to finish a few projects with
9

lengthy effects instead of many initiatives that are short-lived. It is better to take a more extended

period or develop a long-term initiative than to take a short period.

Many people look up to the Family Tree Agency. Moreover, like other NGOs, it might

encounter struggles along the way. It is advised that they should always be prepared with another

alternative if things do not go as planned.

Political Factors

This is an external issue. Researchers have found out that terrorism can be one of the

political factors, and it dramatically affects the activities of any organization, Family Tree being

one of them. The effects of terrorism cause many people to be left homeless, others to be

sexually abused like women, and leave many children homeless who might land in other child-

care homes where they are abused as this is the main aim of the Family Tree Agency to minimize

or eradicate child abuse, domestic violence, and homelessness. This means it will, in return,

increase the operational costs of the organization if many families are affected in a given

country.

Solution: Family Tree Agency should work with community leaders to gain society's trust

(Kitua, 2015). Also, they should be transparent in their activities to avoid and minimize

challenges like terrorism and corruption that is likely to rise if not followed strictly. Lastly,

employees should always be prioritized and be promised a safe working environment.

Technological factors

Researchers have found out that many developing countries have road networks that are

poorly developed. This can become a great challenge for Family Tree Agency in carrying out its

tasks. It has also been found that the language barrier is increasingly becoming another huge
10

barrier as this will make the organization find communication with the communities is a

challenge (Kitua, 2015). This will, in return, lead to misinterpretation of information and a lack

of acceptable input. Coordination of projects will be hard if a region lacks technological

capabilities, resulting in a lack of infectiveness and inefficiency.

Solution: One of the best strategies that Family Tree can implement is to introduce a course to

train its employees to become familiarized with the local language of a specific community. This

will break down the language barrier. Also, they can designate some funds and invest in

technical skills required to complete an initiative and activities effectively because this will yield

quick results.

Issue management assessment

Various steps can be involved in management assessment, and researchers have found out

that these steps also vary as the issues do. One of the essential steps when carrying out an

evaluation is ensuring that the objectives of Family Tree Agency are set and measurable.

Practitioners have found that an organization can have access to many measurement tools, but

the only problems arise when choosing which tool is to be used specifically. The following are

steps that can be used in issue management assessment;

1. Monitoring

a. Analysis of business environment

This analysis involves studying factors of the external and internal environments that can

affect Family Tree Agency to determine how they affect the company (Ejim, 2022). These

environmental influences might have a beneficial or harmful impact. Some internal factors
11

include the kind of culture and structure in an organization. Some external factors are;

government laws, geography, consumers, and competition.

An organization's culture includes; the core values, including the degree of formality,

how employees dress, and how leaders and employees interact. An organization with a robust

cooperative structure has higher chances of succeeding than one without one. Researchers have

found that organizations with positive cultures lead to their employees being happier and more

motivated, improving their productivity. An organization's internal structures include; studying

the premises that are immediate to that organization, including offices. External structures

include the structures' location, company, distributors, and suppliers.

b. Examining and tracking whatever the opinion leaders, government, interest

organizations, media, and the public are saying, writing, and doing.

The importance of tracking the general public is that an organization like Family Tree can

be well updated with the current trends and competitors using fewer resources (Rodsevich,

2021). It is good to listen to people's views about that organization. If they are talking about a

negative or weaknesses of an organization, it will grant it a chance to work out its weakness and

be successful.

c. Lastly, it is wise to consider how the corporation or its divisions might be

affected.

2. Identification

This step involves; assessing elements that are significant to an organization from the

business environment; searching for a pattern to emerge from what society considers normal.

This will be beneficial to an organization as it will be able to be outstanding in its activities,

12

Determine which issues are having an effect on the organization o and are garnering

widespread public support, and lastly, identify the kind of issue is being involved and the

stage it is in.

3. Prioritization

It is significant to determine the extent to which a given issue is going to impact a given

agency or organization (Dougall, 2008); determining what is in jeopardy and this will involve

analyzing the reputation, profit, or the possibility of any action acting freely; the likelihood of a

particular issue happening should also be considered. Those with a higher possibility of

occurring should be attended to first before considering those with low probability; lastly, the

urgency of any issue should be considered. Those pressing issues should be attended to first.

4. Analysis

This involves the following; the most significant issues should be analyzed in detail. This

will help the organization prevent the challenges that are blocking it from succeeding and help

identify a variety of potential areas for improvement (Dougall, 2008). It can be utilized in

scoping and evaluating any opportunity as well as analyzing the prospective rewards of taking

advantage of it; determining the impact of a particular issue on an organization as precisely as

possible; if necessary, an issue assistance team can be formed as this will help in dealing with

that issue; and lastly, the stakeholders can be identified and ranked.

5. Strategy decision

This includes the following;

 Develop a strategic approach and determine the message's substance.

13

 Determining the target demographics. This might involve checking on the

competitors, considering the target demographic's perception and attitude, and

developing a strategy.

 The strategy set by that organization should be considered together with the

required resources.

 Then it should be decided what actions are to be considered, whom to carry them

out, the period, and those who will be involved.

 A communication plan for the issue management should be developed, and timing

should be considered.

6. Implementation

Under this step, the following can be considered;

 The initiatives and policies should be executed after the management has

approved them (Dougall, 2008).

 Clearly and credibly convey the outcome to every target group.

 Promote the organization's viewpoint to avoid undesirable consequences and

encourage reactions that have a positive impact.

7. Evaluation

The results should be assessed. The success of the initiatives and policies also be evaluated to

determine the strategies that can be taken in the future. Furthermore, the lessons learned from the

successes and failures can be recorded for future use when a problem strikes.

Conclusion
14

Many cases of homelessness, domestic violence, and child abuse have been reported,

thanks to Family Tree, which has intervened for those affected. For instance, there have been

cases where parents abuse drugs leaving their children suffering from no food (Vardigan, 2022).

Most end up being street children because they have no one to take care of them. As per

UNICEF, the number of street children is estimated to be one hundred million with India having

18 million and Latin America having forty million (CYC, 2018). The following is a table

showing the number of cases reported in Canada concerning sexual/ physical abuse (Government

of Canada, 2017).
15

Based on Family Tree Organization's expertise, they have changed how the communities,

families, and individuals perceive, respond to, and deal with such challenges (thefamilytree.org,

2022).
