Organization

AdventHealth Tampa, formerly Florida Hospital, is a member of the Adventist Health

System. It is part of the AdventHealth system, which includes 50 hospitals in nine states. This

includes Tampa. AdventHealth is a faith-based health system with locations throughout the

country. In 2019, the name of this organization was changed to AdventHealth. It is one of the

nation's largest Protestant health-care provider providing health care to millions of people.

Medicare compare website types of providers and data available

It is a federal government website managed and paid for by the U.S. Centers for

Medicare and Medicaid Services. The website comprises of providers in home health services,

Hospice care, Inpatient rehabilitation facilities, Long-term care hospitals, Dialysis facilities,

Doctors and clinicians, Hospitals and finally Nursing homes including rehab services. The

website has different types of data including health & drug plans, care providers, medical

equipment and suppliers, Medicare Supplement Insurance policies, publications. It also provides

different types of links to other relevant and informational websites like CMS & HHS Websites.

Compare Data for Organization

AdventHealth Tampa has an overall rating of two and patient survey rating of 3. This is

because they were rated lowly by patients in different areas. Patient survey rating summarize

patient experience, which is one aspect of hospital quality. Individuals use the hospital star

ratings along with other quality information when making decisions about choosing a hospital.

More stars mean better quality care. The star ratings come from a patient experience of care

survey called the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems. The

hospital has a lower national rating on patients who reported that their nurses "Always"

communicated well at 76% compared to national average of 80%. The rating for patients who
2

reported that they "Always" received help as soon as they wanted was at 59% below averages for

both state and national comparisons with Florida (60%) and national (67%) averages. Patients

also complained that the cleanliness was not up to par in comparison to state and national

averages. The hospital scored 61% compared to national overall rate of 73% and state overall

rating of 69%. The patients also complained about noise and rated the hospital lower than both

state and nation overall ratings.

Specific Opportunity for Improvement Identified

The hospital would need to improve the communication between patients and staff as this

is crucial element of care. Nurse-patient communication is essential to providing patient-centered

care, and healthcare systems should prioritize it as a strategic and financial priority. Some

communication tools used in a study by Beulow et al (2018) include repeating topics, engaging

in actual patient situations, and addressing patient needs. Nurses were able to help patients

suffering from dementia or with a history of seizures by using this strategy that help them

communicate more effectively with patients. Nurses can aid in the development of trust between

patients and providers by employing a variety of instructional strategies. When dealing with

patients, the nurse should utilise a different learning strategy, such as providing a real-life

example, making a simple sketch, or showing an action, rather than repeating information

(Huang, 2020).

Reducing anxiety in patients by providing them with clear expectations can help to make

their visits more purposeful and enjoyable. Purposeful rounding is an evidence-based strategy for

proactive dialogue that can improve the patient experience (Kwame and Petrucka, 2021).

Purposeful rounding eliminates the "help uncertainty" that people experience in situations where

they don't have much control over the outcome. According to the 'care uncertainty model' study,
3

patients are apprehensive that nobody will be prepared to communicate to their immediate

requirements if they don't know when nurses will be available for cognitive, physical and

psychosocial care (Huang, 2020).

Provider-to-patient teaching is an effective interpersonal communication method that

helps patients learn and understand information. This evidence-based strategy is called patient

teach-back that seeks to educate the patient so as to make them understand (Heath, 2022). Nurses

should ask patients to repeat information in their own words so that clinicians can ensure that

patients have fully understood the conversation. Nurses should ask patients to recall an idea,

series of guidelines, or even other health - related information in their very own terminology

during patient teach-back. This aids patients in synthesising information (Heath, 2022). Effective

communication helps maintain a healthy relationship by fostering trust, reducing fear and guilt,

and alleviating pain (Seth & Rani, 2017). Perfecting nurses' abilities, which include an emphasis

on communicating with patients with varying degrees of health literacy, can help to improve the

overall patient experience and rating at AdventHealth Tampa.
