    The Indian Railways is planning to purchase additional freight wagons over the next few years to increase freight capacity and meet a target of transporting 2,000 million tonnes of freight by 2025. In June 2023, the Railways considered buying 60,000 wagons at an estimated cost of Rs. 25,000 crore. Wagons are manufactured at railway workshops as well as by public and private wagon builders. The main types of wagons used are open, covered, flat, hopper, brake van, tank, and container wagons. Cold rolled formed sections, a key component for wagons, are supplied by 10 companies.

    1. RECENT NEWS ABOUT  June 2023: The Ministry of Railways is considering purchasing 60,000 wagons to increase the share of
    WAGONS FOR INDIAN freight traffic. The wagons are estimated to cost around Rs 25,000 crore.
    RAILWAYS
     October 2022: Indian Railways plans to add 90,000 wagons by 2025.
     June 2023: The government plans to deploy more than 100,000 wagons in the coming years to increase
    freight loading to 2,000 million tonnes (MT) by 2024-25.
     Texmo Rail (Nov: 2023: Total Order of wagons was 11000 wagons out of which Texmo rail get the
    order of 3400 wagons.)
     Jupiter Wagons Limited (Oct-2023: - The government is coming with this new 50000-55000 wagon
    tender which they may require within 18 months and Jupiter Wagons Limited expect to get around
    10000 to 12500 wagons)
    2. WAGONS  Indian Railway wagons are manufactured in Railway Workshops (ASR/NR, GOC/SR, JMP/ER,
    MANUFACTURER’S SPJ/ECR & UBL/SWR).
     PSUs (Braithwaite & Company Limited, SAIL-RITES Bengal Wagon Industry Private Limited).
     Private Wagon Builders (Texmaco Rail, Modern Industries, HEI, Besco (WD), Titagarh Wagons,
    Jupiter Wagons, Cimmco, Besco (FD), Jindal Rail, Amzen, SRBWIPL, Oriental, CEBBCO).
     Final Inspection of Wagons at PSUs and Private Wagon Builders is done by Quality Assurance (Mech.),
    RDSO, while in Railway Workshops inspection is done by Neutral Control Organisation (NCO).

     HOPPER WAGON (BOBYN, BOBYN22.9, BOBRN, BOBRNHS, BCFC, BOBRNHSM1, BOBRNAL,
    BOBSN)
     BRAKE VAN WAGON (BVZI, BVZC, BVCM)
     TANK WAGON (BTPN, BTPGLN, BTFLN)
     CONTAINER WAGON (BLC/BLL)
