x The 20 additional Credits need to be acquired, 16/15 credits can be earned by undergoing specified courses
listed as pools, with 4/5 courses, each carrying 4/3 credits. The remaining 4/5 credits must be acquired
through two online MOOCs (Swayam /NPTEL), which shall be domain specific, with 2/3 credits and with
a minimum duration of 8/12weeks as recommended by the Board of Studies.

MICROPROCESSORS AND MICROCONTROLLERS

Preamble:
Microprocessor and Microcontroller have become important building blocks in digital electronics design.
It is important for student to understand the architecture of a microprocessor and its interfacing with
various modules. 8086 microprocessor architecture, programming, and interfacing is dealt in detail in this
course. Interfacing, PIC, architecture, programming in C.

Course objectives:
x To understand the organization and architecture of Microprocessor

Preamble:
This course gives an outset on principles of operation and construction of various basic instruments for
measurement of different electrical quantities. Familiarization of modern digital measurement systems
were also included here.

Course Objectives:
x To understand and analyze the factors that effect the various measuring units.
x To choose the appropriate meters for measuring of voltage, current, power, power factor and
energy qualities & understand the concept of standardization.
x Describe the operating principle of AC & DC bridges for measurement of resistance, inductance
and capacitance.
x To understand the concept of the transducer and their effectiveness in converting from one form to
the other form for the ease of calculating and measuring purposes.
x To understand the operating principles of basic building blocks of digital systems, record and
display units.

POWER SYSTEM ANALYSIS

Preamble:
The course is designed to give students the required knowledge for the design and analysis of power flow
studies and faults in electrical power systems. Calculation of power flow in a power system network
using various techniques, formation of Zbus and its importance are covered in this course. It also deals
with short circuit analysis and analysis of power system for steady state and transient stability.

Course Objectives:
x To develop the impedance diagram (p.u) and formation of Ybus
x To learn the different load flow methods.
x To learn the Zbus building algorithm.
x To learn short circuit calculation for symmetrical faults
x To learn the effect of unsymmetrical faults and their effects.
x To learn the stability of power systems and method to improve stability.

Preamble:
This course aims to lay the foundational aspects of signals and systems in both continuous time and
discrete time, in preparation for more advanced subjects in digital signal processing, image processing,
and communication theory & control systems.

Course Objectives:
x This gives the basics of signals and systems required for all electrical engineering related courses.
x To understand the behavior of signal in time and frequency domain.
x To understand the characteristics of Linear Time Invariant (LTI) systems.
x Concepts of the correlation and sampling process.
x This give concepts of signals and Systems along with its analysis using different transform
techniques.

(Minors Engineering Course)

Preamble:
Evolutionary algorithms use mechanisms inspired by nature and they can be used to solve optimization
problems through process that emulate the behaviors of living organisms. In this course students learn
different evolutionary algorithms and their applications to solve standard single-objective test problems.

Course Objectives:
x To classify optimization problems and learn the features of soft computing algorithms.
x To learn the steps of GA and PSO algorithms and their applications to solve Rosenbrock &
Rastrigin function test problems.
x To learn HSA and ABC algorithms & their application to solve Rosenbrock & Rastrigin function
test problems.
x To illustrate the steps of SFLA & Bat optimization algorithms & their application to solve
standard single objective test problems.
x To learn the basic concepts of multi-objective optimization & steps of NSGA-II algorithm.

Fundamentals of Soft Computing Techniques
Definition-Classification of optimization problems- Unconstrained and Constrained optimization
Optimality conditions- Soft computing techniques- Conventional Computing versus Soft Computing -
Classification of meta-heuristic techniques - Single solution based and population based algorithms –

FUNDAMENTALS OF POWER ELECTRONICS
(Minors Engineering Course)

Preamble:
The usage of power electronics in day to day life has increased in recent years. It is important for student
to understand the fundamental principles behind all power electronic converters. This course covers
characteristics of semiconductor devices and operation of ac/dc, dc/dc, ac/ac and dc/ac converters. The
importance of using pulse width modulated techniques to obtain high quality power supply (dc/ac
converter) is also discussed in detail in this course.

Course Objectives:
x To know the characteristics of various power semiconductor devices.
x To learn the operation of single phase full–wave converters and perform harmonic analysis of
input current.
x To learn the operation of three phase full–wave converters and AC/AC converters.
x To learn the operation of different types of DC-DC converters.
x To learn the operation of PWM inverters for voltage control and harmonic mitigation.
