Beginner’s Guide to Advanced Persuasion Patterns

Foreword
Welcome to lesson 5 of The Beginner’s Guide to Advanced Persuasion
Patterns!

There is quite a lot of ground to cover in this particular lesson and you may
already feel like you know a lot of it. As we talk about some of the concepts today
you might see yourself already using a lot of it and the only criteria you have is
how you can be more effective with it.

Introduction Lesson Four

This lesson is about two things:

1. Modalities

2. Sub modalities

I am hoping that you are going to say, “But this means nothing to me…tell me
what these things are and what I can do with them.”

If you were to say this to me I would reply “Great, let’s talk about the applications
and results you can expect with these things.”

There are three overall results you can get from this lesson:

1. Building stronger connections

2. Changing how people are processing their thoughts
3. Changing the meaning of the internal representations you and others make

The first needs no explanation but let us have a look at some of the options for the
other two.

Changing the way people are processing thoughts can give you a great result.
Here is a simple illustration, when you are under stress you will have a tendency
to think in a particular mode. This restricts your decision making ability, your
creativity and ultimately you opportunities to create solutions / results. So by
having a way of changing the way you are processing your thoughts you will have
more options available.

Page 3
Beginner’s Guide to Advanced Persuasion Patterns

The above is also true of other people and has wider applications. For example if
you want someone to change a decision they have made, how about getting them
to think it through a different process? If a person can’t find a solution to their
problem perhaps different ways of thinking can help?

Changing the meaning of an internal representation can have a huge effect on

people. Think of the implications of being able to switch the internal
representations of like to dislike or vice-versa. Move all the things you don’t like
but have to do into the box where you keep all the things you enjoy? Take your
client’s representations of your competitors and get your client to put them in their
box of dislikes? Move the representation that the person you are trying to date
into the place where they keep all their most favourite and cherished friends?
There are a lot more applications, but let us just start from this.

Sensory Language

Have a listen to the first audio before reading on.

Here are a few example words and phrases that people use when they are in a
particular mode of thinking. This should give you enough of an idea of the sort of
thing you will be looking for and saying to get a handle on sensory language.
Before moving on, a final word of warning, don’t see people fixed in a particular
pattern when talking to them. As you talk, see if you can get a feeling of the
general way they are processing their thoughts.

Now that you have an idea of how these three senses work, go and listen to a few
people and see if you can hear some of the patterns they hold on to. Practice
moving through different sequences of as you speak and see what difference it
makes to the impact you have on people.

If you found someone in a particular mode speaking to them in the same mode
would automatically build rapport. Here is an example of saying the same thing in
the three different modes.

VISUAL

If I could show you an attractive way in which you could have whatever you
want, you would at least want to look at it, wouldn’t you?

If this looks good to you we will go ahead and focus on getting the
paperwork done.

AUDITORY

If I could tell you a way in which you could have whatever you want, you
would at least want to hear about it, wouldn’t you?

If this sounds good to you we will go ahead and discuss how to set up an
account.

KINAESTHETIC

If I could help you get hold of a concrete way in which you know you could
have whatever you want, you would at least want to get a feel for it,
wouldn’t you?

If this feels good to you we will go ahead and set up an account by handling
the paperwork.

Charisma Patterns

Have a listen to the next recording to get an explanation of charisma patterns and
hear a few examples.

This is a deconstruction of the formula.

As you can see it cycles through the senses and ends back with a good feeling.

It has a subtle “I” to “You” shift.

It also has a “with me” run on sentence. It is ambiguous as to as to which bit the
“with me” is attached to i.e.
“See you getting results with me” or “With me that just makes me (you) feel
good.”

So here is the formula

I Feel (x)
As we talk about subject
See you getting results
With me that just makes you feel good

And here are a few applications

Sales
I can feel excited about us talking through the benefits of the products so you can
see yourself getting great value for money…with me that is how good I want you
to feel about this product.

121 Coaching
I feel good about the fact that we will discuss all the areas where you can see
yourself getting results… with me that is why you can feel great about using a
coach

Dating
I am still feeling the great rapport between us when we were talking about all the
brilliant things you can see us doing together and I hope you are feeling good
about it to.

Training (including pace and lead statements)

Standing in front of you, waiting for us to start I can feel the anticipation rising as
I think about all the things we will be talking about because soon you will see just
how much you can get from this course…with me training is all about how good
you feel as you think about the results you will get with these new skills.

Consultation
I am really pleased we are discussing your (appraisal / diagnosis / injury / results)
I am certain as we talking things through you will see some areas where you can
make some great improvements, with me, feeling good about the potential results
is what these discussions are all about.

Presentations
I wouldn’t want you to get too excited about the things we are going to
discuss…well at least not until we have got part way through the talk and you can
see the potential for yourself…with me these presentations are all about you
feeling good when you recognise the potential for change right here and right now.

Adding in other patterns

I’m quite excited about the topics we will discuss because the issue is not about
the topics themselves but how you can see yourself getting big results. Now
looking at the sort of things you are going to do with these skills is what will give
you a great boost…with me that is the point were you can start to get really
excited.

Networking / Social completely letting go of the formula

Hi, pleased to meet you. I’m not always feeling comfortable at this sort of thing
but listening to the people that are here it sounds like they are having a good time
I hope you are seeing yourself having a lot of fun, here…..WITH ME, the first place
to start is by finding out some more about each other. TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF.

Networking / Social completely letting go of the formula

I know we haven’t met before today. I always take a little time to settle and GET
COMFORTABLE with new people. I think you have to spend a little time talking and
listening so YOU BUILD RAPPORT WITH ME after a while you can see that we are
going to get along really well

So just to start the process along what would you like to know about me that will
settle us down and BUILD RAPPORT

Training
Good morning, hope you are well and feeling good about being on this course. I’ve
been spending the last few days talking to people about the how much you are
going to learn. And I don’t know if you can already see how much you are able to
do at the end of these two days because if you can see it, you might just GET
EXICITED about all these new skills YOU ARE LEARNING

Shifting Internal Representations

The following language shifts the internal representations in space:

above all, that aside, from, of bottom

across back, to, of bring together
add more become panoramic clear, of, out
against behind, all close down
along side below, all, that closer
along, with beside come up to
amidst, among between compress
apart, from, of beyond condense
around bigger continue forward
ascending blow over cramp
disappear, from, to in place of past
dissolve increase peak
distance indistinguishable pick up
double, up inside, that, of pop up
down, to instead of putting aside
draw in into rear
drop keep abreast reduce, in size, the size
duplicate keep away remote
dwindle keep going forward repeat, that
expand your horizons keep off replace, that
extend leave it and go on run over
fade away lessen set at rest
fall off let everything drop shrink it down
flicker, off, out lookout over shrivel it up
from above make absent side by side
from behind middle smaller
from beneath missing somewhere to the side
from between move forward split
front move right ahead spread out
get clear on to stop
go back open up stretch
go behind opposite, to, of terminal point

Beginner’s Guide to Advanced Persuasion Patterns

go by out of reach terminate

go over top of out of the way too big
gone by out, of, to turn inside out
half, halfway outside of turn into
halt overlap
horizontal overcome
identical overhead

Putting aside the issue that this may seem complex, I invite you to rise up above the detail of
this list and notice how you can run through some examples. In this way you can overcome
lots of solutions and realise you have been shifting internal representations all your life.

From this perspective have you realised how simple this is or do you need to look at another
example before you understand fully?

Words that affect internal representations in time:

abruptly from now on sequel

accelerate halt sequence
after here, now short term
ageless here today gone tomorrow since
all day long in due time soon
already in the future span
anytime now in the meantime speed up
as, as long as in the past stand still
as often as instantaneously still
as soon as keep time stop
as soon as you like last, lately successive
as surely as latter end suddenly
at the same time like new terminate
automatically live through the day that
before long awaited the entire time
beginning look ahead, the hour that
beginning of the end look back the month that
briefly make time fly the time that
by the time that mark time then
carry through meanwhile thereafter
cease moment by moment time out
closure near future time up
come/draw to a close never until
conclude never-ending wait
consecutive newness want to
continuing next time when, whenever

continuous no sooner than where

delay not now while
die out now would be
dissolution often yet
drag on over and done with
during pass away
elapse past
end periodic
end of the matter perpetually
endless peter out
every time progressive
final stage prolong
finale quickly
finally reoccurrence
finish repeating
for the present restart
frequent round the clock
from day to day run its course

After you have taken a deep breath, you become much, much calmer and notice sooner or
later you will understand internal representations in time.

Are you beginning to see how you can use your mind to make changes yet, or is it something
you can expect in the near future? Because once you do you can feel relaxed all day long,
today and everyday about using these shifts.

You may, in the past, have thought that things tended to drag on before you know you know
how to do something well but now the time between when you think of an idea and when you
put that idea into action become almost simultaneous, if not simultaneous just by distorting
time just a little. That is all right isn't it?

Other words and phrases that affect internal representations:

act out cancelled easy come easy go

add to the pile of clear up edge
at the speed of light close enduring
bad taste close at hand fade
become extinct close down faster
belongs to the past concave, convex feel yourself
blow over crack fine tune
boundary crowning flicker

break up don't be confused foggy

bring together double, duplicate for better or for worse
brink drop foresee
give weight to revert to back and forth

lapse slower abreast
last but one sort out at any rate
leave it and go on sort what's important at random

never ending turn a blind eye to come upon
next on the list turn into, turn up slow down and create

remain wind-up bring forward

repetition without limit bring to pass
replay above and beyond collapse
restart working through come to light
return to at once come to pass

I wouldn’t expect you to have a level of complexity in the way you shift internal representations,
if you just stand back from them a little and see the woods, you might notice you have been
doing this all your life.

As you think about shifting internal representations now, how is it that you act out what is
possible for you. This is one more reason to add to the stack of other reasons to go ahead and
shift things around in your mind. Notice how things that used to belong in the past can come
forward, quickly change and return to the past where they become a resource. But just
imagine…only for a moment that this is what you are doing to others anyway…and now you
are doing with solid knowledge of how to change the way others see and do things differently.

This Week’s Assignments

Do as many of these as are appropriate to you and just focus on the ones that
will get you the biggest results. Remember just ten minutes daily.

The first thing I think would be useful is to listen to a few conversations with a
different set of ears. Just listen in to a few conversations picking out the modalities
people are cycling through. Do they stay in particular modes or switch through a
few? Obviously this is easier to do if you are not in the conversation so any
unscripted piece on TV or Radio is also a place to start. Once you are comfortable
start picking this up in the conversations you are in.

On your own practice saying the same thing in different sense. Then mix the
sensory language up. It is common to find that two out of the three are relatively
easier and the third you have to work at a little more. With me it is auditory that
you might not find as easy. Do this out loud as practicing out loud is worth ten
times the practice of doing it in your head.

Once you are happy you have some phrases start dropping them into
conversations and noticing the results. When you are comfortable switching
through different modes start from where your subject is and cycle them through
various senses.

Page 13
Beginner’s Guide to Advanced Persuasion Patterns

Now work out a few charisma patterns for common or daily situations you come
across and start using them. Remember the issue is to lead with your tone, pitch
and pace of voice…not the words.

Let go of any results for the moment, just practice running the patterns over
people or groups. Your only result to start with is to say the patterns you have
devised to someone…it doesn’t matter what happens as a result just so long as
you do it.

Once you are comfortable then start to calibrate on the person you are talking
with and see if, just by talking you can lead them somewhere. It is almost like
grabbing them with the way you talk so that they can see themselves in a
different place.

The final set of exercises is just about shifting internal representations. Just take
the lists from above, pick a few of your favourite phrases / words (you are
probably using them already) and use them deliberately to create the effects you
want. I am sure once you let go of the challenge and embrace the idea you can
clear a space where the possibility exists. Seeing the opportunity is clearly the part
you want to get a handle on. Once you have that in your pocket you can quickly
grab hold of the skill of doing this.

One final note…take each of these elements and practice them in isolation. As you
get more comfortable with each then start to bring them together. You learnt to
walk before you learnt to run up the stairs whilst carrying a tray and talking to
your friends at the same time.

I’ll see you in seven.

Cheers

Rintu

PS. If any of you are NLP trained and wondered what I have done with the Ad
sense…I have kept it apart very deliberately as it has some powerful implications
that I will share with you next week.

Coming Up Next Week

We have almost completed all the building blocks to becoming very sneaky
with our language. Next week we will look at two very powerful things.

The first is strategies. Consider the fact that our thoughts, decisions and
emotions follow a pre-programmed sequence and this impacts our
behaviour. For example when getting out of bed and ready for the day you
will follow a set pattern. What if you could either work out a person’s
pattern for buying if you are in sales, a person’s learning pattern if you are
a trainer or coach, a person’s pattern for falling in love and so on? This is
standard NLP that you will learn next week. In the few weeks that follow I
will show you my spin on this and how you can install, covertly, a new
pattern…so instead of working out what they have, you give them a new
pattern that you can fire off at will. This starts next week.

The other really powerful tool we will start to examine next week is values.
Imagine you have fundamental drivers that you almost automatically move
towards. If you had a system for finding these out from people and then
binding them to what you want them to do how powerfully persuasive will
you be? This also starts next week.

In the next couple of weeks we will start looking at bringing these tools
together so you can start to use all of them together in cohesive patterns.
So get practicing because I am looking for you to produce some astounding
results over the next few weeks.
