The PDRRMC released an order reiterating Governor Dominic

Valera’s July 27 executive order, suspending classes in all levels at
private and public schools. On Monday, August 1, it ordered that
work resume in government premises, but it requested that
provincial units use makeshift workspaces until safety inspectors
gave the all-clear to use their offices and structures.

impact on about 8,027 other schools.
According to the DepEd-CAR, Abra, the island province at the center of
the earthquake, has reported 218 classrooms destroyed and 403
classrooms with serious damage. As a result, the initial estimate of the
cost of repair and reconstruction, which was Php 228.5 million, has
increased to Php 940 million, which will be used to repair and
reconstruct both fully and partially damaged classrooms.

According to the Abra disaster body, the degree of the damage to the
province's schools may make it necessary to continue using blended, hybrid, or
ed-tech modular programs. In addition, DRRMS has stated that four (4)
schools have been opened as evacuation shelters for the impacted families since
July 27, 2022. 148 people in total are now being evacuated.

ADDRESSING THE PROBLEM/POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS

DRRMS has likewise reported that since July 27, 2022, four (4) schools have
been opened to serve as evacuation centers for the affected families. In total, 148
individuals are currently evacuated. DRRMS also convened the Central Office
Quick Response and Recovery Team (QRRT) to ensure timely, adequate, and
effective response and recovery interventions in the aftermath of a disaster, as
mandated by DepEd Order No. 44, s. 2018. The PDRRMC released an order
reiterating Governor Dominic Valera’s July 27 executive order, suspending
classes in all levels at private and public schools. Likewise, DRRMS also called
for a meeting with the National Education Cluster Partners (ECP) to provide
updates on the affected schools.

ADDRESING THE PROBLEMS/POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS

Among the response actions done by the ECP are the conduct of rapid
assessment of damages and the determination of areas needing Psychological
First Aid (PFA). DRRMS is continuously coordinating with the field DRRM
Coordinators to get the latest updates on the number of affected learners,
teachers, and non-teaching personnel. DepEd has called for an emergency
meeting with the Regional and Division DRRM Coordinators of the affected
regions to present updates and response actions undertaken by their office.
DepEd added that it attended the first response cluster meeting and joined the
National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC)
virtual emergency operations center to further assess the situation of the
affected regions due to the earthquake.

ADDRESSING THE PROBLEM/POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS

It has likewise called for an emergency meeting with the regional and division
disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) coordinators of the affected
regions to present updates and response actions undertaken by their office. The
PDRRMC order suspending classes also covers remedial sessions for students
who have fallen behind in the remote or blended mode of education
implemented during more than two years of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The province has not announced a date for school opening. An order by
Department Education Secretary and Vice President Sara Duterte set the
school opening nationwide on August 22. The Abra disaster body said the extent
of damage to the province’s schools could force the retention of modular
blended, hybrid, or ed-tech modality of classes.
PROGRAMS OF THE GOVERNMENT
ADDRESSING THE PROBLEM/POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS

After the 7.0 magnitude earthquake last 2022, DepEd expands physical
space, beefs up stakeholders' safety. This seeks to lessen the risks of crowd
crush and stampede in case of emergency such as earthquake or fire
incident. The school hopes to create more spacious and conducive learning
environment as overcrowding has been constantly linked to increased levels
of aggression in students. And new school building resolves classroom
shortage. Students from Grade 10 moved from their old classrooms to their
new. It is expected that this new building will allow the school to be one step
closer to solving the lack of learning facilities.

The implementation is strongly effective because they immediately took

action to help and observed the affected students and teachers in their
school, from physical, psychological and emotional and also in their
facilities they checked before they let the residents there to evacuate. They
also maintain their connection to also report the needed details and
information in order to know their accurate and basic needs. They made
the school more spacious, they also added buildings, it’s essential because
the number of them in the classroom will be reduced and to avoid
stampede when another natural disaster comes or happens.
