Purpose The purpose of learning story elements such as plot is to help students
become better readers so that they can interpret and enjoy a wide variety of
literature with deeper comprehension and insight.

The teacher will start the lesson by asking the following questions:
-What is your favorite movie or story?
-How do authors or screenplay writers make a movie or story captivating?
-What are the essential elements that create unforgettable stories?
Review:
The teacher will review what the characters and settings are.
Character:
The people or creatures who exist in the story
-PROTAGONIST - the main character in the story
-ANTAGONIST - the character who opposes (or is against) the main
character.
● The teacher will assess students by showing a picture of Batman and the
Joker
Who is the Antagonist?
Who is the Protagonist?
Answer:*Batman is the Protagonist and the Joker is the Antagonist*
Setting:
The PLACE and TIME in which the story occurs.
The teacher will give examples of setting
PLACE: Under the sea, P.S. 127, The Beach, Target.
TIME: The Future, Midnight, December 25th.
Can you identify the movie based on the description of the plot?
BEGINNING: An animal on the savannah who needs protection from a dangerous hawk
MIDDLE: To find an appropriate protector, he sets out to find the most powerful being in
the world
END: He finds another animal just like him with whom he makes friends with, the animal
lives under the shadow of the mountain, out of reach of the hawk and he is believed to be
mighty by powerful beings.

Rising action: The series of important events in a story that creates interest.
Rising Action Example- In the movie Turning Red Meilin turns into a red panda and starts
fighting with her mom.
Climax: The part of the story where the action reaches its highest point (This is the most
exciting, emotional, scary, or crazy part of the story!)
Climax Example:
Meilin's mom shows up to the concert and starts destroying it.
Falling Action: The events in a story that follows the climax that leads to a resolution
(The problems are being dealt with)
Example of falling action:
Mei and her mother have a sincere talk, and Mei realizes that her mother never meant to
push her, but simply wished for her to be joyful and content. Mei's mother resigns from
her job to spend more time with Mei, and the curse is lifted.
