CHAPTER I
PRELIMINARY
1. Introduction
From the results of teacher interviews conducted, the problem that arises is the lack of
mastery of speaking in students which has an effect on other skills.
Cooperative learning model Giving Questions and Getting Answers was invented by
Spancer Kagan, a Swiss national in 1963. This model was developed to train students to have
the ability and skills to ask and answer questions, because basically this model is a
modification of the question and answer method and the lecture method which is a
collaboration using pieces of paper as the medium. The Giving Questions and Getting
Answer learning model is one of the active learning that implements the constructivist
learning model that places students as subjects in learning.
According to Suprijono (2014: 107): The giving question and getting answer model is
a model developed to train students to have the ability and skills to ask and answer questions.
The activity of asking and answering is very essential in the pattern of interaction between
teachers and students. Asking and answering activities carried out by teachers and students in
the teaching and learning process are able to grow new knowledge in students. The Giving
Questions and Getting Answer model is carried out simultaneously between the question and
answer method and the lecture method, so that students are not in a state of blank mind.
B. Speaking
Speaking Skills According to previous studies that have been carried out by many
researchers, speaking is defined as an act of producing vowel sounds. We can say that
speaking is when we can speak or express our thoughts and feelings in spoken language.
A. Research Method
This study uses the action research method which is carried out by conducting preliminary
research first to get to the problem. Then a plan will be planned to fix the problem. This
research was conducted at SMAN 10 Jambi. Participants in this study were grade 10 science

B. Research Instrument
This study used semi-structured interviews in preliminary research to get the problem to be
studied. Then, Researchers also use an assessment rubric and observation techniques carried
out during study time to get the data needed.
C. Research Plan
From the problems that we got through the explanation of the teacher who taught in class X
SMA N 10 Kota Jambi, the teacher used the discussion method with his classmates, but still
got less than optimal results in speaking. Therefore, researchers plan to use cooperative
methods of giving questions and giving answers to try to improve students' speaking skills.
b. The Action
Researchers plan to use the cooperative method of giving questions and answers to students
with several meetings in learning. In this research, several plans will be carried out in order to
create maximum results, especially for speaking skills
