I. OVERVIEW
One type of school culture that has been shown to have a positive impact on
schools is what described as a collaborative school culture. Collaborative school
cultures cultivate the underlying norms, values, and beliefs, and they strengthen and
promote teamwork and conversations around problems of practice. Collaboration
involves professionals working together in groups on different projects and tasks.
Teacher collaboration can affect the quality of teaching by enriching the work of the
teachers.
II. OBJECTIVES
At the end of this lesson, the students should be able to:
a. Define the collaborative school culture
b. Give at least 5 that comprises the school community
c. Importance of the power of collaboration in school.
III. CONTENT
One type of school culture that has been shown to have a positive impact on
schools is what described as a collaborative school culture. Peterson (1994) stated
that collaborative school culture do not develop immediately. They are shaped by the
way stakeholders, including school leaders, teachers, and key people, support and
reinforce the school norms, values and beliefs.
Collaborative school culture – schools where teacher development is
facilitated through manual support, join work, and broad agreement on educational
values – have been presented as the best setting for learning for both teachers and
students.
Both the internal and external communities in a school environment must be
united and sought for consultation. The following table specifies what comprises the
school community:
