SOP FOR SCRAP OR WASTE DISPOSAL

1. PURPOSE

The purpose of this Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is to establish guidelines and procedures
for the proper disposal of scrap or waste materials generated within the organization, ensuring
environmental compliance and safety.

2. SCOPE

This SOP applies to all employees and departments involved in generating, handling, and disposing
of scrap or waste materials at the organization's premises.

3. RESPONSIBILITIES

Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Officer: Responsible for overseeing waste disposal
procedures, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and conducting waste audits.

Department Heads: Responsible for ensuring that waste generated in their respective departments
is handled and disposed of in accordance with this SOP.

Facility Management: Responsible for maintaining waste collection and disposal facilities.

4. PROCEDURE

4.1. Waste Segregation

4.1.1. All employees shall segregate waste into appropriate categories, including recyclables,
hazardous waste, and general waste.

4.2. Waste Collection

4.2.1. Waste bins and containers shall be provided in designated areas.


4.2.2. Trained personnel shall collect waste as per the waste segregation guidelines.

4.3. Hazardous Waste Handling

4.3.1. Hazardous waste, including chemicals and biohazardous materials, shall be stored in dedicated
containers with proper labeling.

4.3.2. The EHS Officer shall coordinate the disposal of hazardous waste through approved vendors.

4.4. Recyclable Waste

4.4.1. Recyclable materials such as paper, cardboard, plastics, and metals shall be collected
separately and sent for recycling.

4.5. General Waste Disposal

4.5.1. Non-hazardous, non-recyclable waste shall be disposed of in accordance with local


regulations.
