What is Rule of
Thirds
• Rule of Thirds is a term often
used when studying photography
Photo #1
This is a photo I took of a tree
with the sun in the
background. The brightness is
slightly decreased, to allow the
sunlight to be more visible as
well as the shape of the star.
Photography
(Anchor Points, Rule of Thirds and Framing)
Rule of Thirds- Photos
• Anchor points act as the focal point of
the photo, they are what the eyes are
most likely to look at first, often in a ‘Z’
Anchor Points
pattern
Now, What is Framing?
• Framing in Photography often refers to the process of Composing a
picture. It basically aims to divert the viewers' attention
to a specific area, commonly the middle, of the shot.
Examples-
• As you can see the main
point of the shot is often the
middle, making the person
viewing forget about the
outskirts, and focusing on
the middle.

In Photography
Photo 1- Lines

• This is a wall of the outside of a

building. As you can see the lines
are the focal point of the image
as the viewer usually follows the
‘line’ to reach the ‘destination’
which in this photo could be the
sky.
Photo 2- Shape

• This is a metal surface

which has a triangular
design, the triangles
point into random
direction. This is a good
photo because it looks
unusual, or perhaps not
many people have seen
a drain cover up close.
Photo 3- Size

• In this photo we have 2 people,

one standing closer, one further
away. The person on the right
looks incredibly small, but he is
just far away. In contrast the
person on the left looks huge but
he is just closer.
Photo 4- Shadow

• This is a picture I took

with my friend, it’s the
shadow of our figure
projecting onto the
grass, the black and
white effect makes the
shadows look full and
have more life to
them.
Photo 5-
Texture/Form
• This is a closeup image
of a path, where you can
see all of the individual
rocks and parts of the
pathway. Although this
image is Texture, it could
also be Form, because
there are a lot of shapes
that are different sizes.
Photo 6- Colour

• This is an image I took of 2 bins, both

red, with the grey path/wall in the
background, the moment you look at
the image, we instantly notice the
bright red bin which is close to the
camera, as your eyes scan the photo
you notice the other red bin, which is
seen as slightly less brighter than the
main bin. The path on the left contrasts
the two bins, because the bin that is
closer appears vibrant and relaxing,
whilst the pathway is darker and more
depressing
Photo 7- Form

• I took this photo of the ground with

the grass on one side and the path
on the other, not only can you see
the color contrast between the 2
sides, you can also see the different
shapes and sizes that vary between
the 2, you can see the various
changes of shapes in the grass
blades and then the different rock
formations.
Colour Change in
Photoshop

• In the upcoming slides I will display some

images I found on the internet and show you
the before picture, then the after(when I
change the colour)
What is Colour Pop?
• Colour Pop is a very simple but effective photography technique
where you keep one part of the image colour whist turning the rest
black and white, making the colour part pop out of the image.

BEFORE AFTER
How I made it?
In Photoshop, there is an option where you
can change the colour of the selected part of
the image, for this image, I used the Lasso
tool to crop the shirt, then I changed the
hue/saturation to make it red, although there
are a few blue parts here and there, I believe
it is a good start and a good showcase of
what’s possible in Photoshop.

Torn Paper Art
With My Own Work
What is Torn
Paper Art?
• Torn Paper Art in terms of Media
and Design is similar to Colour
Pop but the true colour is
revealed through a piece of torn
paper.
My Example
• This is Elite, World Class Model
Professional Footballer, Bukayo
Saka. As you can see, the outside of
the photo is in black and white,
whilst the middle of the photo is in
colour, almost like he is peering out
between the paper like he is on the
other side of a wall.
