Tuning Quick Guide -> Fagor Turnkey with Glentek DC Motor

Motor Size: Glentek GM4040 (31 Inch lb)

Step #1 [Drive power off, Controller set to G-code mode].

Step #2 [X Axis Initial Drive Signal Gain Pot Adjustment] Turn the pot 5 turns counter clockwise to down
tune the gains before proceeding to step #3. Note: See page 2 for drive pot location.

Step #3 [X Axis Initial Drive Loop Gain Pot Adjustment] Turn the pot fully clockwise to achieve full loop
gain as set by the factory before proceeding to step #4. Note: See page 2 for drive pot location.

Step #4 [X Axis Following Error Screen Display] Drive power on, Press F4 JOG key, Press F6 Display
Selection Key, Press F2 Following Error Key.

Step #5 [X axis Drive Balance Adjustment] Adjust drive balance pot CW or CCW to make X axis stable at
zero on display while axis is holding stationary position.

Step #6 [X Axis Parameters screen] Press ESC key Twice, Press F7 Plus key, Press F4 Machine parameters
key, Press F2 axis parameter key, press F1 X key.

Step #7 [Change X Axis Parameters to these recommended values] Note: After modifying each
parameter, press the RESET key to activate the parameter. See parameters below>>>
P018 = 300
P023 = 1000
P024 = 0
P025 = 40

Step #8 [Create X Axis Tuning Program] Press ESC 3 times, Press F3 EDIT key, create a new program and
enter the example code below. See program below>>>
G91 G70
N1 G0 X1
G0 X-1
(GOTO N1)
M30

Step #9 [Move X Axis to center of machine travel] Jog X Axis to center of machine travel to make sure we
have sufficient travel to run our tuning program.

Step #10 [Set Feedrate override switch to 10%] All tuning performed will be run at 10% of rapid rate.

Step #11 [Execute the X axis Tuning Program] Execute the previously written X axis tuning program. The
X axis should now be moving forward 1 Inch, then backwards 1 Inch in a loop that will continue until
stopped by the operator.

Step #12 [X Axis Signal Gain Pot Final Adjustment] Turn the Drive Signal Gain Pot CW direction while
viewing the X axis following error on screen. The goal is to achieve as near to zero as possible following
error. Once zero following error has been achieved, tuning is now complete. If zero following error
cannot be achieved, increasing the P025 axis parameter to add more feed forward gain may help.

Step #13 [Final Adjustments to Enhance Axis Motion] If axis Accel/Decel/Reversals are too Soft, decrease
P018 Accel/Decel time to make quicker response. If axis Accel/Decel/Reversals are too hard and jerky,
increase P018 Accel/Decel time to make response time slower and softer.

Done! Repeat for all remaining axes. Note: X & Y axis should have the same exact following error to
ensure proper circle cutting on the machine.
