Chapter 1 (Geography) The Earth in the solar system Answer the followin: 1. How does a planet differ from a star? Ans. PLANET « It does not have its own heat and light. [lit by the light of stars] ¢ It is smaller than stars. STAR © It has its own heat and light. © Generally, stars are huge as compared to the planets. 2. What is meant by solar system? Ans. The sun, eight planets, satellites and some other celestial bodies known as asteroids and meteoroids form the solar system. 3. Why is the Earth called a unique planet? Ans. Earth is called a unique planet because:- @ It is the only planet known to support life. © It has oxygen and water. © It has a temperature that supports life. 4. Why do we see only one side of the moon always? Ans. We see only one side of the moon because it takes 27 days for the moon to complete one rotation about its own axis and exactly the same time for it to make one revolution around the Earth. 5. Name all the planets according to their distance from the sun:- Ans.
