NATIONAL LEARNING CAMP

PARENTS’ ORIENTATION
NARRATIVE REPORT
(July 7, 2023)

The National Learning Camp (NLC) is scheduled to launch during the

2022–2023 End-of-School Year (EOSY) break in support of the MATATAG Basic
Education Agenda and as a sub-program under the National Learning Recovery
Program (NLRP) which is designed to alleviate learning loss. For this reason, on
July 7, 2023, J. Santiago Integrated High School held an orientation program for
parents about the National Learning Camp, or NLC.

Ma'am Mariel Madrideo, a Grade 8 adviser, emceed the program. The

program began with an opening prayer, which was led by Ashley Sahagun, a
Grade 12 HUMSS student. The School Head of J. Santiago Integrated High
School, Ma'am Loravella De Castro, made an opening remark. Another Grade 8
adviser, Ma'am Rochelle Gallemit, initiated the discussion.

Ma'am Gallemit pointed out that the NLC will take place from July 24 to
August 25, 2023, for a period of three to five weeks, with three days devoted to
teacher-learner interaction and two days devoted to teacher collaboration
through Learning Action Cell (LAC) sessions. The NLC has the dual goals of
enhancing student learning outcomes and assisting teachers in providing better
instruction.

Following Ma'am Gallemit, Ma'am De Castro continued the discussion

with the parents about NLC. She states that the NLC is a voluntary initiative
whose phased adoption will begin with Grades 7 and 8, with a concentration on
English, Science, and Mathematics. The learners will be assigned to one of three
camps: an enhancement camp, a consolidation camp, and an intervention camp
depending on their particular needs. By incorporating enjoyable and stimulating
activities to promote student interests, socio-emotional skills, personal growth,
and character development, the NLC seeks to imitate a camp setting.
Participation of teachers in the NLC is voluntary. Due to the fact that the NLC
requires teachers to work outside of the normal school day, they must be given
vacation service credits and certificates of recognition for instructors.

The discussion was followed by Open Forum. Furthermore, Ma'am Lora

called three volunteer parents to seek their thoughts about the NLC. It is
encouraging to learn that the majority of parents give this activity favorable
reviews.

Immediately following the Open Forum, the parents watched the NLC
promotional video. The parents were then asked to sign the Camp Panata Wall
and recite the National Learning Camp's vow of commitment. In order to ensure
the success of this year's National Learning Camp, DepEd appreciates the
support of internal and external stakeholders.
