REMOVAL

NOTES:

This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but
the essential information is always correct.

This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.

The following step(s) applies to:


 All vehicles

1.

Release the drivers footwell carpet.


2.
CAUTION:

Do not allow the steering wheel to rotate when the steering column is disconnected.

Disconnect the lower steering column from the steering gear.

Remove and discard the bolt.

3.

Remove the 4 nuts and the bulkhead seal.

Discard the nuts.

4. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.


Refer to:
Lifting
(100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation).
5.

Remove the tow eye cover.

6.

Remove the bolts.

7. Remove the engine undershield.


Refer to:
Engine Undershield - 3-Door/5-Door/Folding Top
(501-02 Front End Body Panels, Removal
and Installation).

8. Remove the front wheels and tires.


Refer to:
Wheel and Tire
(204-04 Wheels and Tires, Removal and Installation).

NOTE:

Repeat this step for the other side.

Release the wheel arch trim panel.

NOTE:

Repeat this step for the other side.

Move the wheel are liner aside.

CAUTION:

Make sure that the ball joint ball does not rotate.

NOTE:

Repeat this step for the other side.

Remove the suspension height sensors.

Disconnect the front stabilizer bar link lower ball joint.

Remove and discard the nut.

CAUTION:

Make sure that the ball joint ball does not rotate.

NOTE:

Repeat this step for the other side.

Loosen the tie rod end to wheel knuckle nut

CAUTION:

Make sure that the ball joint seal is not damaged.

NOTE:

Repeat this step for the other side.

Using the special tool, disconnect the tie rod end.


Special Tool(s): 205-754A

Remove and discard the nut.

NOTE:

Repeat the step for the other side.

Remove and discard the bolt.

NOTE:

Repeat this step for the other side.

Remove and discard the suspension lower control arm ball joint nut and bolt.

NOTE:

Repeat this step for the other side.

Disconnect the suspension lower control arm ball joint.

NOTE:

If equipped.

Remove the transmission steady bar.

18.

Remove and discard the bolts.

Remove the mounting bracket.


19.

Disconnect the electrical connector.

20.

Disconnect the exhaust sensor wiring harness.

Remove the exhaust sensor wiring harness bracket.


21.

Release the front exhaust hangers.

The following step(s) applies to:


 Vehicles with diesel particulate filter (DPF)

Disconnect and release the


Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF)
sensor wiring harness.

The following step(s) applies to:


 All vehicles

Using a suitable transmission jack, support the front subframe.


General Equipment: Transmission jack

The following step(s) applies to:


 Vehicles without folding top

Remove the front subframe to body cross member.

Remove and discard the M16 bolts.

The following step(s) applies to:


 Vehicles with folding top

NOTE:

Repeat the step for the other side.

Remove the subframe support mount.

NOTE:

Repeat the step for the other side.

Remove the subframe support mount.

Remove and discard the M16 bolts.


The following step(s) applies to:

Remove and discard the front subframe front retaining bolts.

Reposition the front bumper.

NOTE:

Do not disassemble further if the component is removed for access only.

Remove the front subframe.


30.

Remove the suspension lower control arm.

Remove and discard the nuts and bolts.

31.

Remove the stabilizer bar.


32.

Release the steering gear wiring harness.

Remove the exhaust hanger bracket.

33.

Remove the steering gear.

Remove and discard the bolts.


34.

Remove the
Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH)
damper.

INSTALL ATION

The following step(s) applies to:


 All vehicles

1.
NOTE:

If installing a new subframe.

Install the
NVH
damper.
Torque:
24Nm

2.
NOTE:

If installing a new subframe.

Install the steering gear.

Install new bolts.


Renew Part:
Steering gear bolts

Secure the steering gear wiring harness.

Using a suitable transmission jack, install the subframe.

Allow the special tools to control the position of the front subframe.

8. Install new front subframe front bolts.

19. Install the transmission steady bar.

20. Secure the front exhaust hangers.

Install the exhaust sensor wiring harness.

Install the exhaust sensor wiring harness bracket.

Install the tire pressure monitor sensor.

Secure the front wheel arch liner.

sensor wiring harness.

CAUTION:

Do not allow the steering wheel to rotate when the steering column is disconnected.

Install the lower steering column to the steering gear. Renew the bolt.

25. Secure the front bumper.
Torque:

26. Install the front bumper tow eye cover.


Torque:
10Nm

27. Install the front wheel and tires.

28. Install the engine undershield.


Refer to:

CAUTION:

Make sure that the specified torque is not exceeded, or the retaining studs may shear and
damage the body panel.

Install the steering gear bulkhead seal and tighten the 4 nuts to the correct torque.

30. Secure the drivers footwell carpet.

NOTES:

Using Jaguar Land Rover approved equipment, check and if necessary adjust the wheel
alignment. SRO must be claimed separately.

If installing a new subframe.

Using only four wheel alignment equipment approved by Land Rover, check and adjust the wheel
alignment.
