4. pH measurement
4.5. Attentions
4.5.1.Calibration times of meter depends on the sample, electrode performance and required accuracy. For high
accurate measurement (≤±0.02pH), which should be calibrated immediately with high accurate standard buffer
solution, for general accuracy measuring (≥±0.1pH), which can be used almost one week or long time o after be
calibrated.
4.5.2. The meter must be recalibrated in the following situations
a) New changed or unused electrode for a long time;
b) After measuring acid (pH<3) or alkaline (pH>10) solution;
c) After measuring solution which contains fluoride and concentrated organic solution;
d) The solution’s temperature is much different with calibration temperature.
4.5.3. There is an electrode soaking solution in the protective bottle at the front of the pH electrode, which can
protect the glass blub, when measuring, open the bottle cap, pull out the electrode and wash it with pure water, insert
the electrode into the bottle and tighten the cap to prevent the exudation of the solution. If the soaking liquid in the
protection bottle is found to be turbid or mildewed, clean it in time and replace the new soaking liquid.
4.5.4. It is not allowed to soak in pure water, protein solution and acid fluoride solution for a long time, and prevent
getting touch with organic grease.
4.5.5. When the meter is calibrated with a standard buffer solution of known PH value, the buffer solution PH value
should be reliable in order to improve the measurement accuracy. The buffer solution should be changed in time
after repeated use.
4.5.6. Always keep the meter clean and dry; especially for the socket of meter and electrode, otherwise it may lead
to measurement error or failure.
4.5.7. The sensitive glass bulb at the front of combination electrode should not touch with hard things, and any
broken and friction will make the electrode invalid. Before and after measuring, the electrode should be washed with
purified water, and dry electrode after washing, Do not wipe glass bulb with paper towel,it will effect stability of
electrode potential and enlarge response time. After the measurement in the viscous sample, the electrode shall be
repeatedly washed with pure water for several times to remove the sample stuck on the glass film, or first cleaned
with appropriate solvent.
4.5.8. If the electrode is used for a long time, or the solution under test contains substances that are likely to
contaminate sensitive glass bulb or block the liquid interface, the electrode will be passivated. The phenomenon is
that the sensitivity gradient is reduced, the response is slow, and the reading is inaccurate. The following measures
can be taken according to different situations:
a) The glass bulb is contaminated and aging: soak the electrode in 0.1mol/L diluted hydrochloric acid for 24h, clean it
with pure water, and then soak it with electrode soaking solution for 24h. If the passivation is serious, soak the
electrode bulb in 4%HF (hydrofluoric acid) solution for (3~5) s, clean it with pure water, and then soak it in electrode
soaking solution for 24h to make it new.
b) Cleaning of glass bulb and liquid interface contamination: (for reference)
Contamination Abluent
Inorganic metal oxide Diluted acid less than 1mol/L
Organic lipidic matter Dilute detergent (weakly alkaline)
Resin macromolecule matter Dilute alcohol, acetone, ether
Protein blood deposit Acidic enzyme solution (such as dried yeast)
pigments substance Dilute bleach solution, peroxide
4.5.9.The service life of pH electrode is about one year, but if the service condition is bad or the maintenance is
improper, the service time will be shortened, and the electrode should be replaced in time after aging or failure.
4.5.10. When the meter is abnormal, please set P7 to restore the meter to factory settings state, and then to do
calibrate and measure again.
5. MV Measurement
5.1. Press【ON/OFF】to turn on, press【DOWN】, choose MV measurement mode.
5.2.Connect the ORP combination electrode or the ion combination electrode (optional), wash the electrode in pure
water and keep it dry, and immerse it in the measured solution. slowly stir and then place stable. When
measurement value is stable and appear stable icon, then read the MV value.
6. Conductivity measurement
6.4.2. The Meter has a unique one point calibration function. Users can select a solution for calibration according to
the principle that the conductivity of the water sample and the calibration solution is as close as possible. The
commonly used calibration solution is 1408 mu s/cm, using the DJS-1 platinum black electrode (K=1), and using the
1408 mu s/cm calibration solution, it can be used in measurement range less than 100 ms /cm. Please refer to the
table for selection.
6.4.3 The calibration method of conductivity electrode set in the instrument includes standard solution calibration
method and constant setting method. The article 4.2 "electrode calibration" refer to the standard solution calibration
method. As long as the standard solution is accurate, it can ensure the best accuracy. Therefore, the standard
solution calibration method is preferred. If the user is used to use constant setting method, user can set it according
to the constant on the conductivity electrode (New conductivity electrode constant manufacturer has marked it
accurately, customer can rest assured to use, if not used for a long time or stained, in order to ensure accuracy, clean
the electrode first then calibrated with standard solution).
6.4.4 The temperature compensation coefficient of the instrument setting is 2.00%/ C, but the conductivity
temperature coefficient of various kinds of different kinds of different concentration solutions is different. The user
can refer to the table (4-2) or the data obtained by the user in the experiment to setting in parameter setting P13. In
high purity water below 10 s/cm,the instrument automatically performs nonlinear temperature compensation.
Note: When the temperature compensation coefficient is set to 0.00,that is: there is no temperature compensation
when the instrument is tested. The measured value of the instrument is the conductivity value at that time.
6.6. Attention
6.6.1.When the instrument is out of factory, the conductivity electrode has been calibrated. Its constant value is
marked on the electrode. The customer can set the constant value directly. It can use directly, does not need to be
recalibrated.
6.6.2. Normally recommends that the customer be calibrated once a month, and that the conductance electrode
after a period of time needs to be calibrated once.
6.6.3. Keeps the conductivity electrode clean. Before and after measurement, it needs to be cleaned with pure water
and dry it.
6.6.4.DJS series platinum black conductivity electrode is plated with a layer of metal platinum black to reduce
electrode polarization and expand the range. Therefore, the platinum black electrode can not be wiped out, so it can
only be washed in water to avoid damaging the platinum black coating. With the warm water containing detergent,
the organic components of the electrode surface can be cleaned and the alcohol can be used to wash.
6.6.5. Conductivity electrode can be immersed in pure water before use, in order to prevent platinum black. If
platinum black electrode is found out of failure, immerse into 10% nitric acid solution or 10% hydrochloric acid
solution, measure it after rinse with pure water. If the condition is not improved, then platinum black needs to be
re-electroplated, or new conductivity electrode should be replaced.
6.6.6. When the meter is abnormal, please set P7 to restore the meter to factory settings state, and then to do
calibrate and measure again.
